

On August 30, 2016, Margaret E. Dougherty died at age 96 from complications of a stroke. The sister of J. Robert Dougherty of Baltimore, and the late Joseph F. Dougherty of Hawaii, Margaret was a native Baltimorean who was a graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, the Thunderbird Garvin School of International Management, Phoenix, Arizona and held a Master’s degree in Latin/American History from Georgetown University.
A veteran of World War II, she served 29 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring as Captain in 1976. For a number of years she was Chief of Port Publications for the Maryland Port Authority, then edited the state-produced, public subscription Maryland Magazine for 13 years.
She was active in the Society for the Preservation of Federal Hill and Fells Point’s successful fight against having I-95 routed through those areas, serving as President during the Bicentennial year, and editing the society’s newsletter THE PACKET for 20 years. She “rehabbed" two 19th & 20th century properties, one in each area.
Ms. Dougherty enjoyed travel, entertaining, and had many friends. She is survived by one brother, four nieces and two nephews in Baltimore, San Francisco and Hawaii, and by four cousins in Maryland and North Carolina.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at LEMMON FUNERAL HOME OF DULANEY VALLEY INC., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11AM.
Interment private.
