Dear Nick,
Today marks your 6th year since you left us for Heaven.  I know you are having the time of your eternal life while still looking out for us too.  Anytime I see a beautiful garden, a huge pile of mulch or a bouquet of black-eyed susans,  I think of you and our time we shared.

Happy Birthday Nick in Heaven.   You may not be here in person; however, your spirit is alive and noticed in so many things I experience each day.  I'm sending a donation to Wounded Warriors in your memory for your 95th birthday.

Dear Nick, 
Today it has been five years ago that you went home to Heaven.  It is fitting that we just had a big rainstorm just now which is about the same time you left us.  So many blessings you brought to me while we were together.  I never knew how much God truly could love me until you showed me what true human love could feel like.  It is the best gift God gives us.  Nick was a Master at showing love.  

I am truly blessed to have been given the gift of love from the most wonderful man, David Alan Robinson.  He is a gardener also and planted a memory garden for Nick and Dave's wife, Carol, who died from ovarian cancer.  God has given me many blessings in my life, but to have two wonderful men to love me. 

Till I see you again, my Nick, know how much you are and always be loved by your family and friends.

You are celebrating your 94th Birthday in Heaven.  We are all blessed to have had your love and care in our lives.  You are part of my heart forever.

Today's date, four years ago, you went to be home with the Lord.

Today would have been your 93rd birthday.   I know you are having a great celebration in Heaven.   Many wonderful memories of birthday celebrations past.  We all miss you dearly.

Today is Veterans Day.  We would have attended one of the services to honor all veterans.   My brothers, Bobby and Mike are in Heaven with you this year.  We miss you.

You have been in Heaven now for 21 months.  We all miss you terribly and think of how you enriched our lives.   I can't see a spring flower start to erupt from the soil without thinking of how much you loved working in the garden.   God's Cathedral....was what you called it!   I know you are having a wonderful time in Heaven and we are blessed that you are watching over us.   Miss you,

Dear Nick,
Today is the 8th of March, 2013, and you have been in Heaven now for 20 months.  It seems like yesterday that we were driving to one of our favorite spots to relax and enjoy the scenery.  I bet the scenery is beautiful where you are.   

We are having a crazy winter here with snow, then nice days, then snow again.   Your snow stories were always tops!!!  I loved hearing about how you and your brother, Harold, would have to tunnel out to the barn to take care of the cows and animals.   It amazed me how you two did the work of men and you were both so young.   It made you two the men you became.  This time of year you always like to have pancakes and baking powder biscuits like your Mom would make for you guys.  You said she could never keep up making pancakes as fast as you two would eat them.

Happy Valentine's Day in Heaven Nick.  There was a terrible snowstorm last week all along the Northeast coast.  It reminded me of a story you told about your worst snow storm.  You said it snowed 56 inches.  Yikes.  When you went into the garage to go to work and opened the garage door, you could not see an inch of daylight.  You shut the garage door and went back inside.  It was not like you to miss any work because of snow but in this case you made an exception.  

New York up to Boston got about 36 inches of snow and they were buried.  Made me laugh to think of your story.

You've been in Heaven for one year and 7 months today.   The 8th of the month always reminds me of how much you gave your love to all of your family and friends.   How blessed we are to have been a part of your life.   I saw the lives you touched and changed.   I witnessed the people you ministered to with your strong arms and hugs.   Many people think they have to do something famous to touch a life; you knew how to touch their soul with your warmth, caring and those blue eyes.   Have a great day in Heaven.

Happy Heavenly 91st Birthday.   What a wonderful Birthday party you are having I am sure.   I was looking through videos on my phone and found the last one taken of your January 16th Birthday in 2010.  Midge, Linda, Kelly and Donna were here for the weekend celebration of your 89th Birthday.  We got a strawberry shortcake from Herman's Bakery and put some crazy candles on it.  You lit one end and it traveled all the way around to the other candles.  Your cake looked like a bonfire.   It brought back such warm memories.    I'll send the video to your beautiful granddaughter, Jaime, so she can share it with all of your family.   Love to you on your special day.

I just wanted to let you know Your Sandy is coming along slowly but surely.   Some days are more difficult than others.  She is reaching out and Blessing others the  way you and she did together.  Sandy is keeping up the praying for others needs the way you two did and I was privileged to witness that with you guys many times.  I'm sure many lives have been changed because of you two praying for them and their families.   Lives will still be blessed and changed as Sandy continues to carry on with you in Spirit by her side.    Miss you Nickster and love you.

Today is exactly a year and a half since you went to Heaven.   I wake up each day and thank the Lord for the love you have shown me here on earth.  I know this is only a portion of the love that the Lord gives to us in our hearts.   I pray that each and every person will feel that kind of love in their lives.   You had a special way of making each person feel the love and light within you.   Keep that love and light alive in our hearts.

We are watching the Ravens game today.  It is not quite the same without you Nick.  Can hear you saying, "Make it count guys!"   Ray Lewis announced he was going to retire this year, come what may.   We are hoping and praying that this means all the way to a win at the Super Bowl.

Dear Nick,
The Saturday before Christmas, Sharon had to go into the hospital for chest pains.   She kept getting those attacks like when we had to take her on Mother's Day back in 2009.  She had tests and her catherization came back good with no changes.   She had a real bad experience with nitro glycerin that they gave her for the discomfort.  The doc put her on a new medication that will hopefully stop the angina attacks.  She gets winded pretty easy now and that is very frustrating, as you know.   I had Puddin send her a get well note.  She was lying down in the chair and I told her to sit up and tell Mommy to get well and come up.  She sat right up and posed for me.   All the nurses and docs thought she was so cute and adorable.   

We left the hospital Christmas Eve at 7pm and had to drive home in a snow storm.  We got out to Carroll County line before the roads got horrible but our Subaru brought us home safe and sound.  We drove right up that steep driveway without a hitch.   

We saw Gloria at the hospital and she remembered you fondly.   She was happy to see me and how well I have recuperated from my heart bypass surgery.   She came up to the room to see Sharon and we prayed together.  Gloria has lost all her siblings so Sharon and I adopted her as our sister.  We are going to meet about once a month to keep in touch.   

I had a very nice birthday breakfast on Saturday, Jan 29th with Kathy to celebrate our December birthdays.  It didn't take us long to get caught up with each other on everything.   Kathy gets more beautiful each year and I am so blessed to have her as my best friend.  I'm going to Cambridge in about a week to see Kathy and Carroll, as well as my other church ladies.  I'm going to donate the Nativity statue to her church, Spedden United Methodist Church.  It is too big for our house and I know they will love to have it.

Dear Nick,
Today is your second New Year's Day in Heaven.   I know you are having a wonderful time there.   I miss you and treasure all the memories I store in my heart.   Judy sent me a nice email to keep me updated.  We are praying for your sister, Eleanor and husband Lee; and also for Brien who had a fall.   

Yesterday was my birthday and I had a most wonderful day.  Sharon decorated the house so when I woke up I had streamers and a sign with 56 hearts on it.   We were treated to a wonderful breakfast at your favorite Bob Evans Restaurant in Westminster.   While there, our friend Mary and her sister, Sharon, came over and sang a most beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday.  It started to make me cry and then she sang, "You must have been a beautiful baby.  You must have been a beautiful gal....."   I started laughing and so did everyone else.   Later that day we were treated to dinner at Parks Landing Restaurant by Connie and Tami.  The food was delicious and Connie had us laughing with stories about Ed.  We ended up at Dawn and Frank's house for a New Year's Eve Party that was so much fun.   It was good to see my nephews and nieces and their friends.   Frankie was home on leave from his European Navy tour and brought his girlfriend, Heather.  She is very beautiful and very nice.   Danielle is expecting and looks like a flower about to blossom.  Leah is an absolute beauty and I wish I had more time to get caught up on what she is doing but she was off to another party.  Marissa, as always, is the life of the party and warms my heart.   Amanda is doing well in school and will be getting her Masters soon.  My Chocolate Martini that Dani made me was fabulous.   Sharon chauffeured me around all day so I could indulge.  Lots of fun and laughs.

Dear Nick,
You've been in Heaven for 17 months today.   I still wake up sometimes and think you are with me.   I've even heard you call my name but when I get up to go look to see if you are okay, I realize you are not there.  I can look at things and pictures now and enjoy the memory of them without feeling such grief.  I'm fortunate to have Sharon who can understand and empathize with me.   

Daniel has been a big help in going through our stuff in storage.   It was good to see Jaime and Travis and I know they will enjoy having meals at our table in their new home.   

I want to wish all our family and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.   

Yesterday was Dec 7th and I remember taking you to the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.   You were overcome by such a beautiful memorial.  Last night I saw a special about the Honor Flight Network that was started by Dr. Morse.   He saw that there were WWII veterans who wanted to go see the memorial but could not get there or afford to.  This non-profit organization gets no government assistance.  It is strictly funded by private donations.   I put this on my Facebook page to encourage people to make a donation.  What a blessing to take these veterans to see their memorial.

I miss hearing that beautiful voice of your singing Christmas songs.  I look forward to hearing that again some day.

Dear Carol,
What a delight to hear from you.   I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas too.   I know you are missing your Mom and Dad a lot this time of year.

I remember your Uncle Nick saying how he and Harold would often "share" a Christmas gift.  Their favorite was a sled.  Uncle Nick said when the snow was deep enough (which did not seem to take too long up your way), they could ride forever right over the fence posts buried under the snow.   How much fun they would have together flying over the hills and fences.  Nick said they would have a long walk back home.    

I know what it is like being the youngest and not having those memories like your older siblings.  My Dad passed away when I was three so I have no memory of him.   I like it when they tell me stories about what he would do.  I am going to start writing down these stories for my children to have.

Dear Sandy, This is Carol (Harold and Dorothy's daughter).  Just want to wish you Happy Holidays.  I know at this time of the year it can be hard to not think about our loves that have gone to heaven.  Love reading your post. Dear Nick,
Tomorrow is 7 years that Sharon's Jack went to Heaven.  I know you guys are having a ball together.

Sharon misses him so, not just because he died so unexpectedly, but because she grieves for the years so never got to have with him.  We had 14 years together and she helped me so much as your health declined.  I would probably not be here if she did not help me and look after me.

She got a special gift in a picture of a lighthouse that I believe Jack sent her from Heaven.  She is going to write about it on Jack's legacy page so I will copy it over after she writes it.

I pray for her that God will give her comfort, peace and a new love in her life.  She deserves to be royally blessed.  I pray also that people who love her will shower her with love, cares and prayers, and those who hurt her without realizing it will stay away and leave her be.  Having PTSD causes complications in grieving and Sharon has made steady improvement; still sometimes she hits a big bump and this 7 year mark may be one of them.

Please Lord send angels to protect and preserve her, lift her up as your royal daughter, and give her the desires of her heart.  She loves you Lord.

Thanksgiving Day:
I remember having to drive all the way to Denny's in Westminster to find a place open for breakfast.  Later we would be fortunate to find such blessings as Stephanie, Bernadette and Ben, as well as many others we came in contact with who served us at Denny's.  

We were always invited to Janice and Jim's home for a fabulous feast.  Everyone would be in a circle and would say what they were thankful for.  

We would sometimes go see a Christmas movie, which I always did when my boys were younger while the guys were watching football.  We would load all the kids in the car & go to the movies.

I usually had to work on Black Friday.  One year we did go to the stores but it was like being in a war zone so we got out of there.  

A couple times we travelled up to Susan's house for Thanksgiving.   All your grandkids would come to church and back at Sue's house for dinner.  

Our last Thanksgiving dinner was with me recovering from open heart bypass aurgery

Dear Nick,
Connie's husband, Ed Smith, passed away from lung cancer yesterday.   He was 84 years young and certainly took advantage of each day that the Lord gave him.   Our family surrounded him with love, care and prayers.   

Our family picnic won't quite be the same without his famous crab soup.  

I know you will all have a wonderful Thanksgiving in Heaven.  Wish I could be there with you.

I got a call about a new job.  It sounds very interesting.  If it is right for me, I know the good Lord will make it happen.

Today is Veterans Day and I know we would have attended a memorial service together.  Thanks to all our Veterans for their sacrifice and service.

I am still not up and around yet due to my back and knee.  I will make up for this by doing something special for our Vets for Thanksgiving.

My Dear Nick,
It is with a heavy heart that I write on this, your 16th month anniversary of going to Heaven.

Connie's husband, Ed, was diagnosed with lung cancer and I know by looking at him that he will be with you soon.  I pray that he does not suffer and can go peacefully into Jesus' loving arms.  It is hard to watch Connie and all Ed's family and our family see him decline.   Connie started hospice and they have been wonderful in helping.  He also has a great volunteer, George, that brings him those milkshakes that you loved to drink.

Also my darling, I had a terrible accident and wrenched my back and bad knee on Sunday.   Sharon had to call an ambulance to take me to Carroll County Hospital because I was in so much pain.   I am doing better on the meds and muscle relaxer and I know I will heal.  God is good and takes good care of my whatever the circumstances.   I am blessed to have family and friends that rally around to pray, help and care.   

Dancing will have to wait until I am back on my feet again, literally.  

We had a terrible hurricane that they called "Super storm Sandy".  I know you got a kick out of that one, didn't you?    It stretched from NC to Maine and all the way back to Michigan and Wisconsin.   I prayed that Fred's place on Long Beach Island would be spared.   We were blessed to have a week there for a wedding gift.   You wanted to see every inch of that island, and I know for sure we covered it, probably twice.   

Our beloved Bobbie came to Heaven on Friday, Oct 26th.  She was diagnosed with lung cancer and sure put up a good fight against it.   Kathy was by her side day and night.  They have been friends longer than she knew Carroll.   Her memorial service is going to be this Saturday, Nov 10th.  I know Kathy is so sad missing her oldest and dearest friend.   I pray for Bobbie's family, especially for Bob and her children.   Losing a spouse is more difficult that anyone can imagine.  

I put a picture of your "empty chair" on the website.   I am sad to say that I have had to replace it due to the springs going.   We had a lot of good times sitting in those chairs together.   

It's getting cold now and I can tell from the caterpillars that we are going to have a lot of snow.   Maybe God will give me a job in Florida; close to Mike so we don't have to worry about snow and cold.  

Your niece Judy always sends me a note to update me and let me know how much she cares.   She is a blessing to my heart.   I keep your family in my prayers every day.   

It seems like yesterday that we were walking, laughing and singing together; that you would take my hands and say grace before our meals; that we would take a drive and stop for a meal in one of our favorite places; that we would go visit someone who needed help; that we would worship and sing in Church; that you would say "I Love You More" to me every day.

My Dear Nick,
Sharon took a picture of me outside our Bob Evans restaurant.   I've lost 25 lbs so far using Sensa.   I know you would like this picture and the outfit.  I could always tell if I looked nice in something by the way you would look at me.   That beautiful smile of yours is burned into my heart.   Your Love and Life are so much a part of me and I am ever so grateful that you chose to love me while you were here on this earth.   I think of how blessed I was to have such a good man in my life.  

I continue to go to Bible Study and learn about how to glorify God through grief.   It has been such a blessing to meet the people at Trinity on Monday nights.   Such a wonderful group of loving Christian people.   The girl in charge is Melody and you would love her.  She lost her husband suddenly and now she serves as a facilitator in our group.  

I also go dancing twice a week.  It is fun and there are a group of us "widows" who sit together (although we don't get to sit much).   I am learning to do the East Coast Swing and West Coast Swing dance.  It is good exercise for my knees.   Dancing does not feel like exercise, which is good for me.   I miss our dancing together.

This time of year reminds me of you especially.  Autumn was our favorite time of year.   The leaves and coolness of the air is refreshing.   

I know you are with me in my heart, always second to my Jesus.

Dear Nick,
You've now been in Heaven for 15 months. I miss you so much.   Your memories are treasures to my heart.  I think of all the time we spent together, driving to see the colors of autumn and see God's beautiful sunsets.  I put a picture of the sunset down at Windy Point since it was one of our favorites.   

I go to a support group called Grief Share.  It is a big help to know I am not alone in the sadness and heartache that I feel.

He and Jack are surely rooting for the Ravens and maybe they had a hand in the last game we won.....since it was noting short of a Miracle.

Dear Nick,
I submitted a photo of your empty chair.  I took a picture of it shortly after you went Home.   The picture of your great grandchildren and coffee mug in the foreground.  How many hours did we spend here....talking, praying, laughing, singing, relaxing, watching Fox News, Oriole and Ravens games, Basketball, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Lawrence Welk, Fox News Sunday, Matlock, Joel Osteen and Billy Graham.   

I have kept this legacy website online in the hope that your friends and family will put their memories here for all us to enjoy.   

Sharon and I go to Bob Evans sometimes and always think of how much you enjoyed going to breakfast each morning.   You always went to breakfast before you went to work at Container Corporation.   Then when you moved here to Baltimore, you would go to Friendly's Restaurant in Lutherville before going to work.  After you retired to take care of Charlotte, you both still went to breakfast each morning.   I remember taking you to breakfast at Bob Evans the Tuesday before you passed away.  You would have gone Wednesday, Thursday and Friday if you had not been in so much discomfort before you passed that Friday afternoon at Hospice.   

That Thursday you insisted on getting dressed to go out; such determination and drive you had; I could not believe you were trying to go out for a ride in the car.   I promised you that if you felt better, I would take you out later.   As it turned out, we would be in an ambulance going to Gilchrist Hospice early Friday morning and you would go home to Heaven later that day.   The Lord knew what a strong man you are and how hard it would be to take you Home.   I am glad you did not suffer a long and lingering time before the Lord took you.   None of us would want to see you suffer like that.

Dear Nick,
I can hardly believe it has been 14 months today that you went to Heaven.   Oh how I miss you.   Not one day would go by without an "I Love You".  It was so lonely after you died.  Everyone was there right after the funeral; then after a couple of weeks, everyone went on with their lives.   The evening time was the worse, I think.   That is when I missed you the most.   

My Grief Share Bible Study Group is starting up again and that has been a big help.   It is great to be around Christians who not only talk about the Lord but live it.   It is hard to believe how many people say they are Christians but don't live the life.
   
I loved you Nick; he knows that you were the second most important person in my life and that the Lord was first. Nick, you always saw the good in everyone and they in you.  You were an extraordinary man and I was blessed to have your love while you lived here on earth.   I thank you for the 14 years we shared together.

Nick would tell me stories about growing up on the farm in Fulton, NY.  He loved working along with his brother, Harold.  He said the two of them did the work of men even though they were just boys.  Up first thing in the morning to milk cows, go to school, come back home and do chores.  He loved his Mom's cooking, especially her buttermilk biscuits.

I had a wonderful two hour interview and I am praying that this will be my new career.  It is doing sales and customer service which is right up my alley.   

I am walking almost every night and was able to walk all the way around Ft. McHenry in 30 minutes.  It was not as much fun as when we did it together but it brought lots of wonderful memories of our time together.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

One year ago today we were celebrating your life here on Earth.  How much we all miss you.  You put a stamp of Love on all our lives.   It has been extremely hot, just like it was last year.   When people came into the funeral home it was like an oven.  I don't remember a lot of what was going on, I think I was in a fog, but I can remember that it felt like a sauna in the funeral home.  

Everyone says the first year is the hardest.   Well I would have to agree.  I could not seem to go anywhere that I did not see something that reminded me of you.  There were times when a reminder would give me comfort; and other times when I felt I could not breathe.  Writing things down has helped.   I miss talking with your family about you.     

I joined the VFW in your honor.  The ladies are very nice and I enjoy doing activities with them.  

I miss our drives and going to breakfast together.   You always went to breakfast every morning.   

I thank you for the Love you showed me.  I prayed that the Lord would not let me fall in love unless that person loved the Lord more than me.   He sent me you and through you I was able to experience the Love of God firsthand.  I am going back to help in the kitchen at church.   

I reflect of how simple you made things.  That is a true Gift from God.

I pray for all of us who miss you so.  I can honestly say that I have never felt grief like this before.  I know I was young when my Dad passed; and my Mom passed when I was pregnant with Daniel.   I felt sad but nothing like losing a spouse.

I went to Grace Fellowship for church today.  I still have a hard time with listening to the worship music so I went to see Virginia in the kitchen.  She gave me such a big hug....just like you always gave.   She said she was just thinking about us with this just being a year.   I told her I will start coming to help out in the kitchen like we always did.

Wow, I cannot believe the same tooth that started aching right after you passed last year started up again Monday, July 9th.   I thought it would go away like it did last time but it got worse.   Fortunately, Sharon's dentist took me in the same day and put me on pain meds ad antibiotic.   
I can finally eat without crying.

It has been a year since this wonderful man of God went home to be with the Lord.   He truly lived his faith by example.   As the old song went "I SEE JESUS IN YOU" - it is one of my favorite and Nick was a loving, caring and special person.

Dear Nick,
The church I have been attending, Crossroads, had a "Be the Church" weekend.  I decided to honor you by doing an activity so I volunteered to help at the Hampstead Senior Apartment Village.  We had an Olde Time Picnic, inside the building since it was 98 degrees outside.  I met some very nice people from the church and also from the apartments.  We played Bingo and I took prizes that I picked up from the dollar store.  Remember how we used to do that kind of stuff together.   It was fun and I had a good time.   

Later today, Sharon and I went over to Kathy and Carroll's granddaughter's graduation party.  I can hardly believe that Anna graduated.  I remember it seems just yesterday that she was a little girl.  

Tomorrow it will be a year that you went to heaven.   I miss you more now than ever.   It's like you took half of my heart with you.  I Love you forever.   I look forward to seeing you again some day.

This time last year God was preparing you to go Home to Heaven.   We did not know it at the time, but you did.  I remember when we were at breakfast with Sharon and you prayed "Lord, I'm ready to go, but if it is okay with you I'd like a little more time with my family."   I'll never forget those words you prayed.

Happy 4th of July to my Nick in Heaven.  I bet the fireworks up there are magnificent.   I am going to go for a nice ride today, thank some Veterans along the way for their service, and count flags like we always did together.   Love, Sandy

Dear Nick,The church I have been attending is going to have a "Be The Church" weekend on July 6, 7th and 8th. I spent Father's Day this year with Kathy and Carroll, along with Kathy's Dad, Ed.   Kathy put a note on your Guest Book that said she knew you were celebrating in Heaven and were having a glorious day.   I know you did have a wonderful Father's Day in Heaven.  

I drove past many of our favorite places to go on our many drives down to the shore.   Crossing the Bay Bridge and counted 9 big ships in the bay.   Love, Sandy

Nick we know you are celebrating this special day.  We thinks of you lots and
miss you, but one day we know we will have hugs.

Flag Day.   This was a special day for Nick.  He absolutely loved to count how many flags we could see.  The best day for this was when we went to Gettysburg, PA.  I believe we counted over 250 flags total.  We did the auto tour of Gettysburg and had a picnic at the top of Little Round Top.  We even found the Mansfield name on the center monument.

Father's Day memory of your dinners with Tom and Deb and their family.  You would get your favorite dishes:  Coneys on the grill, grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, applesauce and peas.

Father's Day will be coming up soon.   How many times we made the trip up to see Susan and visit those wonderful people at Vincentown United Methodist Church.  We would leave here before 7am, stop at Bob Evans for breakfast in NJ; then make the 15 min trip to the church service.  Most times your grandchildren would come to meet us there; then back to Susan and Dana's after church for lunch and visit.   We would leave about 3pm to get back home.  Many blessed memories over the past 14 years.  I will treasure them in my heart forever.  Love, Sandy

You have been in Heaven 11 months now.  I know you are enjoying yourself.  The flowers, trees and grass are showing me how much you are enjoying being in Heaven's garden.  

I've got a spot picked out in Sharon's yard to put a bench and some of your favorite plants and flowers.   

I sure missed you this past Memorial Day weekend.   It's been hard seeing veterans and knowing how many things we did together.   I look forward to seeing you again.

As I start preparing with the rest of the choir for this years Freedom Celebration at Trinity Assembly of God, I am reminded of Nick so proudly walking down the aisle as the choir sang songs in tribute to the men and women who had served our country.   It was only a short few days that Nick went home to be with the Lord but I will be grateful that he was able to be present for that special day in Church.

This is my first Memorial Day weekend without Nick. This was one of our favorite times. As a WWII Veteran, Nick was so proud and honored to attend services that thanked our veterans. Sharon has given me a place in her yard to plant a memorial garden for Nick. I am going to put some of his favorite plants there and a bench. Do something special for a veteran this weekend, or his/her family in Nick's memory. Love, Sandy

Dear Nick,
On this 8th day of May, 2012, I can't help but remember what our day was like 10 months ago.   I did not want you to be in pain and struggling to breathe any longer; and I know you are so happy in Heaven.   I miss you so much.  I'm praying every day for the comfort of the Lord in my grief, for the joy of the Lord in my heart, and I know the promise of the Lord that I will see you again one day.

I pray for all of our family and friends just like we always did together.   Sharon has been a big help to me and her boys too.   They have given me two rooms: one for a sitting room and one for a bedroom.   I have our stuff in storage for now since it has been too hard to go through your things right now.   

Seeing the flowers bloom reminds me of you.  It makes me smile, then cry, then smile again.   I know we would have been picking out what colors you would plant in the gardens.  That was one of your favorite activities.   I bet your garden in Heaven is fabulous.

Dear Nick,
Remember 8 years ago when we got married, April 22, 2004.  We felt like two kids running off to elope.   We had planned to go to Kathy and Carroll's house and get married by the water at Windy Point but circumstances did not allow that.  

Our trip to Ocean City for the Ward Brothers World Championship Carving show was our "honeymoon" weekend.  We had a delightful dinner and enjoyed our wedding "carrot" cake together.   

We went to Harrison Harbor Watch on Saturday night for one of our favorite places in Ocean City, MD to have dinner.  It is right at the inlet and we would get a booth right at the window. During dinner, sunset would come along; boats would start returning from their day at sea; the gulls would ride the current into the inlet.  We never had a dull moment watching all the sights.  We always had something "around the corner", as we would say, to watch.

My heart rejoices in the love that I have been blessed to have received from you.   You dated me every single day since I fell in Love with you.   I would never have known what it felt like to be in love like that if I had not met you.   I am so grateful that the Lord answered my prayer.  I would pray, "Lord, don't let me fall in Love unless it is with someone that loves you more than me."   I knew that if you Loved the Lord, I would never have to be afraid in our relationship.   That is exactly what I got.   We were not perfect; but we had the Lord first, and each other second.   

Our family misses you terribly.  I see the flowers and plants all around which reminds me of you.   

You are the love of my life.  The second most important person to ever be in my life.

Happy Anniversary Darling

Dear Nick,
Happy Easter in Heaven my Darling Nick.  What a holiday you are having in the presence of our Lord.   I know your suffering is over.  I am comforted by that.   I miss you so much.  You were so much a part of my life these past 14 years that I am having a hard time getting on with things but I know it will easier with time.   I sometimes wake up when I hear you call my name.  I go into the sitting room but you are not in your chair.   

I see the flowers blooming, the grass growing and the trees coming to life; all around me is a reminder of you.  I smile, then cry, then smile again.   So many wonderful memories to treasure.   Life is so different now.  How things change in the blink of an eye.   

I joined the Ladies Aux of the VFW in your honor (and also for my brothers, Mike and Bob as Vietnam Vets; Michele, our Air Force Nurse served in Iraq; Trevor, your nephew, served in Iraq; and Ben, Jack's son just back from Afghanistan).  The VFW does good work and I was nominated to be their Chaplain.   I look forward to working with such a fine, outstanding organization.   

I was listening to that son we both loved by Randy Travis "Three Wooden Crosses" and when he sings...."It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you; it's what you leave behind you when you go!"  You certainly left a lifetime of love.

I am working on writing down all the stories you told me over the years.  I so wished I had written them down as you told me.   Now I know to get those memories written down before I forget.

Dear Nick,
I remember this time last year when Gilchrist Hospice started coming to the house.  We were so blessed to have Christine be your nurse.  She gave such great comfort and care.   I think back on what you were going through; not one time did you every complain.  You were always concerned about everyone else.   

I remember how Christine, Sarah and Bonnie (from Gilchrist) would come to meet you.   They were surprised to see how "well" you appeared as you walked out to greet them when they came up the driveway.  Our precious volunteer, Lou Ann, would come visit and you two would talk for hours.   She brought a special comfort to all of our family.

Well my dear, I just wanted you to know that I think about you, miss you so much, can't wait to see you again.  I am working on my "new life" as people like to say to me.

Dear Nick,
Eight months ago you went to Heaven.  It seems like an eternity to me.   I am doing the things you would want me to do each and every day.   It's been hard this past month since I've had to pack up and move our things.  Everything I touched just seemed to give me a pain in my heart.   My family had to step in and pack things up for me.   It was just too much for me to do.  I have been told by so many people that it's normal for me to feel like this since it is the "firsts" for everything within the first year.   I don't think I'll every feel "normal" again.  

I am blessed to have been such a part of your life.  You swept me off my feet when I first met you and I'm still off my feet.  I know you are having a wonderful time in Heaven and not suffering anymore.  That gives me great comfort.   

I just started a GriefShare Bible Study group and I know this will be a blessing.   I pray for all my family and friends and am so grateful for their help and encouragement.

Happy Birthday in Heaven Nickster.    Today you would have been 90 years young.   We miss you and love you.  You left a huge legacy and your memory will go on in our hearts.    Thank you for loving my sister Sandy and that you gave her so many wonderful memories.    You were quite the character.   Loved your stories especially the one when the cow fell on you when you were a boy.

Six months ago today you left me here alone without you.  We always said we would go together.   I feel so alone.  I miss you more than eve. My Dear Nick,
Five months since you went Home to Heaven.   So much has happened recently....I started a new job in a wonderful place and I will be moving into my new "nest" about the middle of December.   I asked the Lord to give me a place just like ours and guess what?  HE DID.   When I went to look at it Sunday morning with Sharon, I felt just like it was our home together.   What a blessing.   I will miss our Chloe but hopefully she will get to see my new dog (think I will adopt a rescue Cocker Spaniel).     Also, it has a garage....I've never had a garage before.   I think you are putting in a good word for me with the "Big Boss" as we like to call our Jesus.   

Up until recently, I could not even look at the Christmas lights or hardly speak to anyone.   People ask me, "How are you?" and I say, "Fine!".   I'm not fine.   I am so sad.   I miss you so much.    I read about bewailing and lamenting.    Boy Oh Boy.   I never knew a cry could come from so deep down inside.   It's funny though, once I cry it out, I have a sense of peace and closeness, like I can feel you there and I can hear the Lord whisper to me, "I will never leave you or forsake you."    Never!    I love that word.    Well most of the time anyway.   

I bet you are having the best time of your life.  No more oxygen and gasping for breath.    When I look back and think of how we went out to breakfast the Tuesday before you passed.   What a miracle that was.   Most people in Hopsice don't go out for breakfast.   I remember you wanted to go out that Thursday but you were too sick.    You would have if you could; and by Friday the Lord was taking you to His banquet table.   

I love you more each day even though we are not seeing eye to eye each day.   I sit in your chair so I don't have to look at it empty.

Dear Nick,
Four months have now gone by.  From the heat of summer to the changing colors of autumn.  My minds eye remembers our first autumn season in 1997.  Every weekend we would take a drive into the country to take advantage of the changing scenery.   We would say, "This will probably be our last weekend of color."  However, week after week we would be blessed.  It was the longest Fall season that we both could recall.   I think on that treasure of my heart this Fall.

Dear Nick, 
I'll be starting my new job at GBMC on Monday, Oct 31st.   I am excited to be working at GBMC since we were so blessed by the way they took care of you over these past years.  I remember back in 2008, after your heart surgery in January, when they found that spot on your pancreas.  It turned out to be pancreatic cancer, and you had that removed in December 2008.  What a year, two major surgeries in one year.   The same time you were diagnosed, they diagnosed Patrick Swayze with the pancreatic cancer.  He was not as fortunate to have it found as early as your cancer was found.  It was truly a miracle it was located and they were able to get it all out without any chemo.  

I had a great interview for the job.  I told them all about you and how proud I would be to work there.  It is hard to get through each day without you being here physically, but I know you are here in my heart.  Love, Sandy

Today is three months since Nick went Home to Heaven.   I found a poem that I think he would like since he knows how much we miss him.  Our lives are blessed because of the impact he made.   

I watched "Dancing with the Stars" the other night and thought about how much we loved to watch that.   I remember how you would do your own dance steps when you would go to the microwave to heat up your coffee.   It made me laugh, cry and laugh again. Miss you more. Love, Sandy

What a difference a week can make. Last week I was worn down and feeling overwhelmed, crashed really bad with sore throat and being in the house alone. Thank God for the friends and family that reach out .... it does not make me miss Nick any less, but it sure puts some Love in that big empty hole in my heart. Love you guys, Sandy

Nick loved to go to Friendly's for breakfast in the morning.   He had done this each day before going to work.  When he retired and took care of Charlotte for 12 years, he took her for breakfast.   When I met Nick, he took me there also.  Everyone there loved him, especially Karen at Lutherville and Jen at Westminster.   We would pray for the servers and managers as they worked.  We also prayed for the other people we met there.   We have written their names in our Bible to continue to pray for those we come in contact with.   God Bless all of you.   Love, Sandy

It's been one month today since the Lord took you home with him.   We all miss you more each day.   We are doing the best that we can.   Debbie is a great "hug" giver like you.   Sharon tells me it's ok when I need to cry.  Jaime and Travis keep us laughing.  Linda and Kelly are here this week giving comfort and cooking.  Tommy and Mel sent a love text to me while celebrating their wedding anniversary in Philly.   Judy called with good news about Pete doing better.  Tom picked a good movie to watch tonight called "I am Marshall".   It was all about honoring a football team that were killed in an airplane crash.   How appropriate for this night to give me a good excuse to cry.   It also gave the hope of new beginnings wherever God takes us.  You will always be a part of my heart.   That is something I will have forever.  You showed me how much God loved me by bringing you into my life.  I can feel your presence all around me.  Half of my heart now lives in Heaven with you. Today is July 28th. I seem to have lost a week or two. My sister, Sharon, said this is normal but I'm not sure what normal is yet. I miss my Nick even though I know he is in a much better place, Heaven.

Dear Sandy,

Nick was a kind, caring, gentle and a loving man.  We can see him feeding the ducks and swans at "Windy Point" and we were honored to receive  the wonderful carvings that he made of the ducks and the swan.
When he visited he would want to stack wood or garden and he could keep working longer than all of us.  And, we will always remember him for "peas."
His goodbyes were a strong hug to both of us and I love you guys.
We were so pleased to have known him.
We know his suffering is over and that he is happy in his wonderful new home.
The blessing is that we will see him again

Dear Nick:  Two weeks today you went home to Heaven.   I know you are having a great time there.   All of us here are happy you have no more suffering, but we are sad and missing you.   

I remember the day this picture was taken at Kathy and Carroll's home, Windy Point, in Cambridge.   We were sitting in front of their old fireplace looking out over the water.  I have such fond memories of our time there.   I can see you feeding the swans and the ducks with Kathy.   

Even though you are no longer here physically, I can still feel the love you have given to me.

Dear Nick:  I can hardly believe it has been almost two weeks ago that you went to Heaven.   We had the viewing on Monday and so many people came to pay their respects and comment on how they felt so sad that you are no longer with us.   We know you are in a better place now, and for that we are all grateful.   

We had a celebration of your life with us on Tuesday.   Susan played and sang all your favorites.   Your son, Tom, gave a beautiful eulogy.  His stories had us all crying and laughing.  I can tell how much he misses you just by looking at his sadness.   Your grandchildren, Tommy and Jaime, also spoke about how much they loved their grandfather.   My sister, Sharon, shared about our mission to pray for those who serve others.   I will continue to keep our mission going for many years to come.  There are so many out that who need our prayers.

Now comes the hard part.  Trying to live each day without you.  I'd like to say I'm doing great but you would know that is not true.   I hold on to the promise that I will see you again someday in Heaven.
