Born and raised in Baltimore, Paul graduated from Dulaney High School in 1992, where he was a standout athlete and student. A talented pitcher, he earned the distinction of being the first non-professional pitcher to take the mound at Camden Yards and received a scholarship for both baseball and academics. Paul continued his baseball career at Oklahoma State University before graduating from Towson University. He later pursued his passion for healthcare, earning his degree in Respiratory Therapy from CCBC, and went on to work as a dedicated Respiratory Therapist.
Paul’s life was filled with joy, humor, and love. He was the beloved father of William “Will” Underwood and Henry “Hank” Underwood, and nothing brought him greater happiness than supporting his sons in their many activities, especially hockey, baseball, and lacrosse. He shared a warm and friendly relationship with his ex-wife, Carol Wagner, and cherished time spent with his family.
Paul had a playful spirit and a gift for making people laugh. He loved movies, music, animals, Lego, and Star Wars, and he was a loyal Orioles fan. A natural dancer—famous for breaking into “the worm” at weddings—Paul’s lightheartedness and love for life touched everyone around him.
He was the devoted son of Albert E. Underwood and the late Sonie Lee Underwood; loving brother of Ann Underwood Stine and her husband Randy, and David Michael Underwood and his husband Doug Miller; and proud uncle of Sara Stine, Samuel Stine, Sophia Miller-Underwood, and Zahlei Miller-Underwood.
