

William Robert “Bob” Benson, 95 years old, passed away in his sleep at Stella Maris on Thursday, August 13, 2020 in Timonium, MD. He was born July 26, 1925 to Edgar and Edna (Martin) Benson. He grew up on a family farm located at the intersection of Falls and Benson Mill Rds in Upperco, MD. Bob graduated from Sparks High School; received his BA in Business Economics from Johns Hopkins University and his Law degree from the University of Baltimore.
On December 21, 1959 he married Georgia Burch in Baltimore, MD. He worked as a compensation claims supervisor and trust officer for Equitable Trust Co/Maryland National Bank. Bob served as a Trial Magistrate in Parkton, MD between 1959-1967 and 1969-1971. For 13 years Bob was a business relocation claims attorney assisting businesses adversely affected by Inner Harbor Redevelopment and State/Federal highway programs. He practiced Law in Towson and Cockeysville, MD before retiring 10 years ago. Bob enjoyed politics, history, and tending to his yard.
Survivors include his daughter, Ellen Lutrey, and her husband Mark of Forest Hill, MD; son, John Benson and his wife Diane of Ellicott City MD; 6 grandchildren Julia, Kari, Megan, Molly, Daniel, and Laura; 2 sisters Jean Turnbaugh of Parkton, MD and Betty Gaddis of Atlanta, GA; 1 brother, Richard Benson, of Edmond, Oklahoma, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
