William Frederick Bergeron (Bill), born January 27, 1928 to Ruth and Fred Bergeron, Keene New Hampshire, peacefully passed February 11, 2016 while accompanied bedside by his loving wife Norma Ronchi Bergeron whom he shared 65 years of marriage.
Bill raised in Keene along with his brother Howard (D-2014) was of the greatest generation youth that hunted, enjoyed Boy Scouting, and joined the Navy at the age of 18 having just graduated Keene High. Released from the Navy he enrolled at University of New Hampshire and graduated four years later as an electrical engineer. Along the way Bill had the good fortune to attend a dance in Hampton beach where he met his loving wife Norma Lucia Ronchi and they were married October 28, 1950.
Bill was a lifetime employee of Sylvania retiring 41 years later in 1991. Bill’s career moved the family from their childhood homes in New England to Pequannock New Jersey for nine years and then to Phoenix Maryland in 1963 where Norma still resides today. Bill was passionate about providing for his family, teaching his boys home repair skills, but most importantly demonstrating his lifelong commitment to education. Bill furthered his own education by returning to obtain his Masters of Business Administration in 1972 from Loyola College in Baltimore Maryland. Bill made memories locally in his beloved community of Sunnybrook where the couple enjoyed a lifetime of friendships.
In 1969 Bill and Norma achieved a life long dream by purchasing a partially completed summer home by the shore in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. As you might imagine Bill set right to work to complete the upstairs of the home so his boys would have a place to sleep in summers to come. With the help of this three oldest boys, Bill, Mark, and Bruce, sawing, hammering, and painting their way to completion within a couple years the house was fit for making a lifetime of memories. Bill enjoyed his two weeks vacation each year sea-side with sunglasses on and book in hand as his brood pestered him by digging behind his chair until he tipped over and laughed. Morning baked sugar coated Marvel Market donuts, mid-day surf casting during blue fish runs, tomato sandwiches, hamburgers, dogs, and sweet jersey corn on the picnic table in the stone yard, evening walks in red and white striped beach cover-ups, game table cribbage, pinochle, and gin rummy, and all topped off by Breyers black speckled $1.49 vanilla ice-cream before bedding down in the salt laden air he was so fond of at the shore.
Mostly Bill will be remembered by those that knew him closely as a gentlemen, although his life can be easily be characterized by the Boy Scout Oath - On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
Bill a Frenchman by heart, but Italian By Marriage, is joyously celebrated by his wife Norma, and their four children, William Frederick Bergeron Jr., Mark David Bergeron (D-2008), Bruce Joseph Bergeron, and Paul Edward Bergeron, and their respective spouses Katie, Eileen, Cathy, and Lori.
