He was born in Shelbyville Tennessee on October 26, 1922 to Albert Walter and Nancy Jannie (Gilliland) Lloyd. A graduate of Scott High School in Toledo Ohio, he served in the Philippines with the U.S. Army during World War 2 and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he was employed by Dana Corporation (Spicer Division) for 35 years. He also installed and serviced time clocks for the Simplex Time Recorder Company when they established their business in northwest Ohio. After retirement, he and his wife, Orpha Irene (Burton) Lloyd, moved from Toledo to Brownsville Texas where he resided since 1982.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother (Walter Edwin Lloyd) and sister (Bertha Mildred (Lloyd) Martin). He is survived by his children, Sandra Kay (Craig)Wittenberg and Robert Dee Lloyd; grandchildren Claudia Lee (Todd) Beavers, Clark Lloyd (Shannon) Wittenberg, Deedra Sue (Brandon) McKissack, Crystal Renee (Bryan) Lawson; great-grandchildren Carroll Jean Beavers, Shelby Lee Beavers, Caleb Lloyd Wittenberg, Samantha Marie Wittenberg, Caden Lee Wittenberg, Morgan Elizabeth McKissack, and Alexandria Nicole Elliott; numerous nieces and nephews; and long-time friend Maria Mumm from Brownsville Texas.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM to Noon, Thursday, September 2, 2010 at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd 419-473-1301. Funeral services, conducted by minister Thayer Salisbury from Flanders Road Church of Christ, will be immediately following visitation, with interment at Toledo Memorial Park.
