

TOLLESBORO -- Steve Earl Harris, 78, of Tollesboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in Scottsdale Health Care, Shea Campus, Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was born in Mayking on May 30, 1933, to the late Spence Edward Harris and Sadie Elizabeth Holbrook Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Harris, whom he married on Dec. 27, 1953.
He was a civil engineer and graduated from University of Kentucky in 1957 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He was a registered land surveyor. He worked at Verville Construction Company from 1957 to 1962 and was city engineer of the City of Maysville from 1962 to 1978. He was a former partner of Brown County Construction from 1979 to 1998. He was an active member of the Tollesboro Christian Church since 1957.
Mr. Harris was the designer and contractor of the Tollesboro Christian Church sanctuary and the Family Life Center. He served as Sunday school superintendent for many years and was board chairman and also served as an Elder. He was a member of the Tollesboro Lions Club, Masonic Lodge 240, the Shriners, and served on the board of directors at Citizens Deposit Bank and Tollesboro Christian School. He was a past board member of Buffalo Trace Area Development District, and the local Hospice of Hope. In addition to serving on the board at Tollesboro Christian School, he was instrumental in the formation of the Tollesboro Christian School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Steven Earl Harris Jr. of Louisville and James Edward Harris and wife, Sarah of Tollesboro; five grandchildren, Stephanie Harris, Blaine Harris, Tyler Harris, Colin Harris and Leslianne Harris; his brothers, Tommy Harris and wife, Edith of Richmond, Raymond Harris of Richardson, Texas; his sisters, Opal Sanders and husband, Ed of Jeffersonville, Ind. and Jean Bible and husband, Jack of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Spence Harris Jr. of Michigan.
Funeral services 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Tollesboro Christian Church with Bro. John Moore, assisted by Bro. Larry Tucker. Burial in Hillcrest Garden of Memories in Maysville.
Pallbearers are Tyler Harris, Colin Harris, Blaine Harris, Mike Mineer, Kirby Wright, Steve Pederson, Jack Bennett and Ronnie Polley. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Barbour, Donald McCann, Phil Cropper and Wayne Womacks.
Visitation 5 - 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Tollesboro Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tollesboro Christian Church or the Tollesboro Christian School.
