It was mid-morning in Goodyear, Arizona on December 5, 2021, when the Lord called Ronald Wayne Brewer home. Ronald was born in Helena, Montana on April 10, 1939. He graduated from Cathedral High School in June 1957. Ron moved to Portland, Oregon, to attend Portland University, majoring in engineering. Shortly thereafter he received a career offer from Chevrolet Motor Division. Ron accepted this offer and moved to Oakland, California. This career change moved him to several company zones, including Detroit, Salt Lake City, and back to Oakland and the position of Area Service Manager in Fresno. It was during this assignment that Ron noticed a dark-haired gal driving a corvette with her dog riding shotgun in Turlock, California. He had a meeting at Smith Chevrolet in Turlock, where he asks if anyone knew her. They did and introduced him to JoAnn and a great friendship developed.
After his time in Fresno, he returned to the Bay Area and taught classes at the Oakland Training Center, while holding the position of Regional Service Manager. Ron received many achievement awards while in his career with Chevrolet. Next, he was promoted to Area Sales Manager and transferred to Napa, California. It was this move that motivated him seek marriage. He proposed to JoAnn, and they married on April 27, 1974. They’re life in Napa was busy, Ron restored a corvette, he and JoAnn frequently toured the wine country.
His last transfer with Chevrolet sent him to Sacramento. This was where their son Brian was born, September 21, 1976. It was time for a change, so Ron joined private Chevrolet dealers and left corporate behind. Ron became a Fleet and Leasing Manager, working for dealerships in the area and doing quite well. Chevrolet continued to award his skills and dedication after leaving corporate.
The family settled in El Dorado Hills in December 1987, where they were very active in their son’s sports, snow skiing, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Ron, finally retired in June 2010. They settled in Indio, California. During this six-year period they both chased air shows and enjoyed air museums. Indio was a great stop and closer to their son and grandkids in Las Vegas.
Moving again meant Henderson, Nevada. This included “trying” a senior community. It was great being so close to family until Covid hit. The final move was Goodyear, Arizona. We both liked the change and living in a community of mixed ages, all nice neighbors. Life changed for Ron and JoAnn the morning after Thanksgiving Day when Ron told her he believed he was having a stroke. This was never a part of their plan and such a surprise. Ron shared himself in every way with his family and friends. He was an amazing man privately and in his work relationships. His humor was unique and kept JoAnn laughing with him always. We have been blessed to know and love him. Thank you, God, for this lifetime blessing, JoAnn, Brian, Cody, & Caitlyn.
