

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Aatif Ali Cooper, who departed from this world on May 24, 2024, at St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, NJ. He was 39 years old and was born on March 4, 1985, in Newark, New Jersey. His departure has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones. Aatif, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, has left an indelible mark on our community, a testament to his love and kindness. His gentle spirit and warm smile have not only touched the lives of many but have also shaped our community, making it a better place. His journey, which began in Newark, New Jersey, was guided by his loving mother, Velma Cooper, who instilled in him the values of compassion, resilience, and integrity. Education played a significant role in Aatif's life. He pursued his studies at NJIT, honing his skills and developing a passion for learning. Aatif was a proud Theta Chi fraternity member, forming lifelong friendships and sharing countless memories with his brothers. Aatif's kindness knew no bounds and will be remembered for his selflessness and generosity. He was a beacon of light in the lives of those around him, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of wisdom. Aatif's legacy of compassion and empathy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Aatif was predeceased by his beloved mother, Velma Cooper, and a niece. He is survived by his loved ones, including his daughter Relena Cooper (mother Faith Ebhardt).He is also mourned by, and was a father figure to, Lu Benitez (mother Crystal Benitez) and DJ Dorne (mother Angela Marie Florio). Additionally, close family friends James Penkalski, Carlos Salazar, Tyree and Kimberly Jones, their son Tyree Jones Jr., Nikki Norris, Dashaun Harris, Shanta Walker, their daughter Zy’rai Walker, Reece Mills, Anjali Persaud-Harris, Cora Persaud-Harris, Isaac Persaud-Harris (mother Rachel Persaud)
and many others grieve for him. His presence has forever changed their lives, and his memory will continue to bring them solace in the days to come. We express our deepest gratitude to all those who provided care and support to Aatif during his illness. Your kindness and compassion were not just a source of comfort to Aatif in his time of need, but they also served as a beacon of hope for our community. We are forever thankful for your unwavering support, which is a testament to the strength of our community and the love we share for Aatif. Aatif Ali Cooper's departure has left a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to shine bright in the memories and hearts of all who were touched by his presence. His memory, a beacon of love and kindness, will guide us in our actions and interactions. May he rest in peace, knowing he was loved and cherished by many, and his memory will forever be a source of inspiration and comfort.
