Alan R. Ackerson

Born in Queens, New York on July 4,1938 to the late Thomas and Edith (Brown) Ackerson, he attended New York City public schools. Alan was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1956-1959.

Alan married the love of his life, Susan McCarthy on August 29, 1964. They lived in Belleville before settling in Manchester in 1977. Alan was a loving husband and devoted father, and was well known for his homemade potato chips. For most of his working career Alan was a manager for Twin County Grocers.

Alan is preceded in death by his beloved wife Susan as well as their siblings June Billerth (Bernie), Robert Ackerson (Rose), Raymond McCarthy and Lorraine McCarthy.

Family meant everything to him. Alan’s memory will be cherished by his children Rich Ackerson (Patti), Jim Ackerson (Linda), and Cindy Wolf (Alan) and his grandchildren Amanda, Chelsea, Jenna and Scott Ackerson and Tom, Nick and Kim Wolf. He will also be remembered by sisters-in-law Jeanne Stout (Richard), MaryAnn Ragany (Frank) and Denise McCarthy, and an extended family he cherished.

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
