Alicemay Weber-Wright, 95, of Toms River, NJ passed away after a long, wonderful, and adventurous life. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Dorothea Cascaden Richman and Merle Richman, she spent her early years visiting Ocean Gate in the summers and then moved to Toms River when her mother married Robert F. Snyder. Alicemay grew up swimming, crabbing, ice-skating, fishing, and sailing on Toms River and Barnegat Bay. She raced extensively with her dad, Bob Snyder, in G-sloops, the A-cat ‘Bat,’ and a variety of other one-designs. From an early age, sailing was her passion and she dreamed of sailing to Australia and other far shores. She became an accomplished sailboat racer, winning flags and trophies from an early age and spent years participating in the BBYRA in many different classes, including G-sloops, A-cats, E-scows, and Barnegat 17s, among others, as well as earning multiple trophies in auxiliary races in Barnegat Bay, Bermuda races, and elsewhere. She was a long-time member of the Toms River Yacht Club, serving in a variety of capacities promoting sailing, junior sailing, and serving as president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She pursued her passion of sailing her entire life, including her years of marriage to F. Peter Weber and raising their five children.
After remarrying in 1981, she realized her dream of sailing to far shores and started a circumnavigation in 1986 with her husband, Howard Wright, aboard Ziggurat, a 40-foot Nevins yawl. That journey lasted five years and took them to many exotic locations, including much of a year spent in Australia. Upon her return, she was once again active in TRYC and the Toms River Seaport Society. As a result of her accomplishments and lifelong efforts promoting sailing in Barnegat Bay she was awarded the Virginia Read Memorial Trophy as Yachtswoman of the Year in 2005 and inducted into the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame in 2006.
Alicemay was predeceased by her parents and her daughter, Kathryn Weber. She is survived by her children Carol DeMoranville (Bill), Richard Weber (Pam), Jon Weber (Regina), and Beth DeCenzo, her cherished grandchildren Stacey Dalton (Tom) and Rick Weber (Jamie), her beloved great grandchildren Andrew Dalton, Amaya Dalton, Austin Weber, Riley Weber, and Emerson Weber, and her grandchildren’s mother Deborah Martin Weber. She also leaves behind a host of close friends of all ages on whose lives she had a lasting impact. A celebration of Alicemay’s life will be held in the fall.
