Anthony Settipane, 86, of Silver Ridge East, Berkeley Township, Toms River, New Jersey passed away peacefully (but not without a big fight first) on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at Community Medical Center, Toms River, New Jersey due to complications of COVID-19. Anthony was born in Endicott, New York, thereafter moved to Brooklyn, New York with his family, where he helped his father operate the family-owned Sugar Bowl on Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. Later, he enlisted into the Army. Thereafter, through a cousin of his, he met the love of his life, Madeline SanFillippo, who he married on September 6, 1958 and eventually moved to New Jersey, where they raised their family. He also worked for Pepsi -Cola for many years, ultimately retiring with them in 1996.
Anthony loved his family with all his heart and was a kind and caring friend to many. Although the stakes were high, he was also crowned by his family as the King of Stubborness, had a great smile and just about anyone who met him adored him from day one. He was a big lovable teddy bear (and he was most easily persuaded by the girls in the family). He had a gift of talking with anyone who crossed his path. He would go get this newspaper every morning and play his lottery numbers. He was nicknamed “Lucky” by the storeowner and the regular patrons who knew him as well. He was also a huge sports fan, loved the New York Yankees, New York Jets and New York Rangers and a huge horse racing fan.
Anthony is predeceased by his parents Gaetano and Mary. He is also predeceased by his son, Anthony, along with his sisters, Ida and Phyllis, his brothers, Jimmy, Joey, and Jaspar and many other family members and friends who he loved dearly.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 62 years, Madeline, his son, Michael Settipane, his daughter, Debra Vitale and his son-in-law, Chris Vitale; his grandchildren Michael Settipane, Jr., Janine Satkin and her husband, Jared Satkin, Brittany Vitale and Ashley Vitale; and two great grandchildren, Jacob Satkin and Juliette Satkin, his sister Laura Fagan, his brother, Tommy Settipani and many nieces and nephews who he also loved dearly.
Upon his wishes, Anthony will be cremated. With the best interests of his family and friends at heart, a celebration of Anthony’s life, will take place at a later time due to the current situation.
