Betty Yaccarino

Betty Yaccarino, 79, of Toms River, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 22, 2023.  Born in Newark, NJ to parents Harry and Katherine (Motsvalos) Tsakiris, she moved to Ocean Gate as a child.  She went on to be part of the first graduating class of Brick Township High School.  Soon after graduating she married Sam Yaccarino and moved to Asbury Park and eventually West Allenhurst to raise her family.

Betty was a hardworking and well-loved Mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and mother-in-law. When not running her children to miscellaneous sporting activities, jobs or friend’s houses she worked for many years at Boscovs and achieved the “Circle of Excellence” award.  She was an avid Football fan who loved her Sunday afternoon games. Her favorite past times included shopping, reading murder mystery novels, and sharing her Greek heritage with family.  Before moving to Ocean County, Betty was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Yaccarino and her parents, Harry and Katherine Tsakiris.

She is survived by her brother, Charles (Nancy) Tsakiris; children, Eveleen (Marty) Grissman, Louis (Christine)Yaccarino, and Catherine Mazza; 5 grandchildren, Amanda Yaccarino, Anthony Mazza, Michael Mazza, Samantha Mazza and Nicholas Grissman; and a niece and three nephews.

A Private Memorial Gathering will be held at a later date.
