

Dorothy Marie Stephens, 93, of Toms River, NJ, passed away at home on May 12, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, and lived her entire life in Toms River. She was the first Police Woman sworn in to the Dover Township Police Department and retired as a Detective. Dorothy was a member of Toms River Police PBA #137, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Toms River and a member of their Century Club.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband William “Ron” Stephens in 1978, and her great-granddaughter Paige Houston in 2013. She is survived by her three sons: Kevin of Toms River, Ron and his wife Peggy of Hobe Sound, Florida, and Dennis and his wife Lisa of Maine; her sister Eileen Garbe and her husband Harry of Toms River; her brother Rev. Joseph Emmett Carol of Seaside Park; her sister-in-law Marie Carol of So. Toms River; her grandchildren: Michele and her husband Ken, Joseph and Cathleen; her great-grandchildren: Cody and Shane; and two nephews Francis X. Halligan Jr. and Dr. Gregory Halligan.
There will be a Memorial Mass on Saturday, May 16 at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph RC Church, 685 Hooper Avenue in Toms River. Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River is in charge of arrangements.
