Ellen Gladys Carroll Matthews, 94, of Whiting, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Manhattan, NY, she lived in Bethpage, Long Island, NY before moving to Whiting over 25 years ago. Ellen was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting. She enjoyed needle point and was past president of the Women’s Club of Crestwood Village 5 in Whiting. Ellen loved spending time with her cherished family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis A. Matthews. Surviving are her loving children, Kevin Matthews and his wife Ronnie, Mary-Ellen Rice and her husband Gregory, Patricia Ryan and William Matthews; her sister Irene Lord; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. Interment will be private.
