

Eugene Jones was born on August 7, 1936 in Albany, Georgia, son of the late York Jones Sr. and Mirah Jones. He departed this life on April 19, 2015 at home in Manchester Twp., NJ. Eugene was educated in the Albany, Georgia Public School System. He enlisted in the US Navy in April 1955 and retired after 20 years of honorable service to his country in April 1975. After retirement, Eugene worked for Mosley & Mosley Septic Service, Toms River for 1 ½ years. He retired as a Chemical Operator at Ciba Geigy, Toms River in 1992 after 15 years of service.
Eugene was united in Holy Matrimony to Ardenia L. Thomas on November 21, 1964 in Lexington Park, Maryland. They were blessed with one daughter, Deborah Ardenia and one grandson, Andre Franklin Hodges.
Eugene loved sports, especially football (Steelers) and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Eugene was a faithful and active member of the Wells Chapel AME Church for many years. He served on the Trustee Board, Lay Organization and sang in both the Senior Choir and Male Chorus.
Eugene was predeceased in death by seven brothers; York Jr., Willie, Andrew, James, Samuel and Willie (Watson) and two sisters Jessie Abbensett and Bertha Riley. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Ardenia, daughter Deborah & grandson Andre, Washington, DC, two sisters, Fanny Howard and Annie C. James of Albany, GA. and one sister-in-law Esther Gray of Pittsburgh, PA. Local nephews, James Hawkins (Curly) and Calvin Jones Sr. (Annabel) of Philadelphia, PA., devoted friend, John Harris (Gwen) and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He will truly be missed…
Visiting will be Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 AM until the service at 12 noon at Wells Chapel AME, 26 Center St., South Toms River. Cremation will be private.
