It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Florine H. Dendler (Cookie), known to many as Mom, Grammy, Grandma, and Mimi. She was 83 years old and lived life to the fullest.
A resident of Aberdeen Township, Cookie worked for Marlboro Board of Education, Baxter Medical, Astrup and S.S. White. While living there, she raised four boys. She spent countless hours watching her sons’ many athletic games and cheering them on. She could always be seen working in her beautiful flower beds and watching the birds at the feeders, especially looking for her precious hummingbirds.
After retiring in 1998, Cookie and her husband Dave moved to Toms River, NJ. She and Dave spent much time taking day trips around New Jersey and Pennsylvania, exploring their treasures including cafes and restaurants. She always loved a great chicken salad sandwich.
Cookie will be deeply missed by her entire family, friends and those she met through her joyous life. Her love, joy, humor and infectious laughter will live on in every story shared and every memory held close.
She was predeceased by her parents Florian and Helen Kovacs, and her sister Mari Ann Gordon.
She is survived by her loving family: her beloved husband of 64 years, David Dendler, Sr., her four sons and their spouses: David Dendler, Jr. (Becky), Florian J. Dendler, Jeff Dendler (Thea), Brian Dendler and Joy Derechailo (Rick). She is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Zachary Dendler (Lauren), Brianna Wolff (Bob), Christopher Dendler (Marissa), Sara Dendler, and Jack Dendler. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Myer and her family, Barbara Povlick, who was like a sister, and brother-in-law Walter Gordon and his family, and many other family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Florine’s name may be sent to The Dementia Society of America (www.dementiasociety.org).
A memorial service will be held at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755, United States. The service is scheduled for December 18, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
