

James F. Harkin, 83, of Forked River, NJ, passed away on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012, at his home in Forked River, NJ, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and lived in Boston, MA, and Bergen County, NJ, before moving to Forked River in 1993. Mr. Harkin was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corp in the Korean War and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a pioneer of the computer industry from 1947 until his retirement as VP of Mohawk Data Sciences in 1989. After retirement and leisure for a few months, he went back to work part-time as a limousine driver. He thrived on the customer interface this afforded him.
Mr. Harkin was pre-deceased by his son John T. Harkin 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Marilyn (Thomas) Harkin; his son Michael and his wife Maria of Paramus, NJ; his four daughters: Patricia MacDermott and her husband Glenn of Butler, NJ, Margaret Blake and her husband David of Hackensack, NJ, Mary Hammett and her husband Kevin of Waretown, NJ, Kathryn Guastello and her husband Richard of Ridgewood, NJ; his brother Gerard Harkin of Staten Island, NY; eighteen grandchildren: Melanie, Michael, Josh, Shawna, Michelle, Mariel, Colleen, Ryan, Matthew, Nicholas, Kennedy, Mark, Caroline, Jaimie Lee, William, Alexa, McKale, and Richard John III (Trey); and two great-grandchildren: Michael and James Michael.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 25th, from 7-9PM, and Tuesday, June 26th, from 2-4 and 7-9PM, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11AM at St. Pius X RC Church, 300 Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ. Burial will be immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River, NJ.
