

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of John Merwin Acker, Sr. and Vivian Groenevelt Acker and brother of Judith Acker. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served his country on the USS Lindenwald as a Machinist Mate (MM3). He was employed for 30 years by United Parcel Service as a driver.
In his lifetime, he was a member of the East Dover Fire Company, Strip Surf Fishing Club and Atlantic Saltwater Flyrodders. He attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan, NJ. He enjoyed scuba diving, the beach, the Florida Keys and was an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed his restored award winning Chris Craft boat named in honor of his granddaughter, Miss Lily.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Herbst Acker, daughters Susan Acker-Walsh (Tina) Chapel Hill, NC, Laura Scribellito (David), and Nancy Cagno (Paul), both of Red Bank, NJ and grandchildren, Lily Cagno, Aidan Acker-Walsh and Lucas Cagno.
A celebration of life is planned for the Spring.
Memorial donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or Saint Jude’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
