Jose H. Monroy

Jose was born in Bogota, Colombia and came to the United States with his family in 1980. Although he was a General Accountant for Nissan Distributors in his home country, he left that behind to provide better opportunities for his children.  He was a long time New Jersey resident, dedicated family man and devout Roman Catholic, who embodied a strong work ethic. Jose worked at Atlantic Metal for over 20 years, holding various positions, and retired in 2004.  In his inextinguishable desire to be an active member of his community, he came out of retirement a year later, and for his remaining years he worked with Children with Disabilities as a transportation aide at Hartnett Transportation Center in Lakewood, NJ.  Jose also volunteered in the Church his entire life. He was a loving husband, father and abuelito. 

Jose is predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Isabel Monroy.  He is survived by his four children: daughter, Alexandra Monroy and Bob Angstadt of Penn Valley, PA; daughter, Cristina Monroy and Rob Smith of Roselle, NJ; son, Jose H. Monroy, Jr. and Ana Julia Gomes of Cranford, NJ; daughter, Paola and Manuel Ruiz of Clinton Township, NJ, five grandchildren; Acacio Escada, Sofia Monroy, Brooke L. Ruiz, Sebastian Monroy and Bobby Angstadt and sister, Mercedes Monroy Vargas.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Michael's Church located at 40 Alden Street, Cranford, NJ 07016 on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 10:00am with an interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains NJ at 11:30am.
