Joseph “Joe” McAteer, 58, of Beachwood, passed away on May 17, 2015 at Jersey Shore Medical Center surrounded by his friends and family. Joe was born in New Brunswick and was raised in Spotswood and East Brunswick before moving to Beachwood in 1985. Joe was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years before retiring in April of this year. Joe enjoyed spending time at Island Beach State Park and Lake George. He loved canoeing, fishing, cooking, really comfortable shirts and good music. He was a loving father to his daughter Hayley. Joe is preceded in death by his wife, his one true love, Debi DuBois McAteer, who passed away too young in 1993. Theirs was a love story like no other. He leaves behind the light of his life, Hayley Rhyan McAteer. Also left with love and memories are his brother Bill McAteer and wife Susan of Temecula, California, his sisters Joann McAteer of Toms River, Judi Tarkany of Spotswood, and Gwyn Panno and her husband Corey of Beachwood, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Denise McGuire of Jackson. He will also be sorely missed by his “spare” daughter, Jacquelyn Elmore and his “adopted” grandchildren, Wolfgang and Phoenix Kozuch, along with many, many friends and extended family. Visiting will be held Thursday, May 21 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 9:00 P.M. with the funeral service at 8:00 P.M. at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Family and friends are invited to visit www.andersonandcampbell.com to leave tributes and condolences.
