Joseph M. Zavatsky

Joseph M. Zavatsky, 75, of Whiting passed away at home on Saturday, November 30, 2019.  Born in Harrisburg PA, his family moved to Manville, NJ, when he was very young, and then on to Bridgewater, NJ where Joe grew up.  He graduated from Bridgewater West High School in 1962, where he was an accomplished Wrestler. 

Joe joined the US Marines in 1963 and served as a Combat Engineer until 1966 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant E5.

Joe then returned to Somerset County, where he lived, and raised his family, until 2001 when he moved to Whiting, NJ.

Mr. Zavatsky enjoyed a distinguished career in insurance and real estate. After working in Insurance since 1967, he started his Real Estate career in 1978 and owned his own firm from 1985 until 1995.  He most recently worked at Crossroads Realty in Toms River from 2001 until the time of his passing.  He cherished the many friends he made, both associates and clients, during his long 41 year career in Real estate.

Joe was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and loved calling Bingo for Crestwood Village 6.  

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Grace; his children, Matthew and his wife Debra of Somerset, Mary Beth Forbes and her husband David of Pittstown, and Joseph of Flemington; his grandchildren, Isabel, Ryan, Liah, Maya, Juilana, Elijah, and Gabriella; and his brothers, Gene and his wife Elaine, Jack and his wife Jan, and Tom and his wife Manny.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 10:30 AM  - 12:30 PM at the Horizon Funeral Home / 1329 Route 37 W, Toms River, NJ 08755.  Following will be Internment & Military Honors at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery / 350 Province Line Rd, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 at 1:30 PM.
