Karen, a longtime resident of Toms River, NJ graduated from Toms River High School South, Class of 1968. She dedicated 42 years of her professional life to the Observer and the Asbury Park Press where she retired.
Outside of her career, Karen enjoyed strolling the boardwalk of Island Heights, researching family history, birdwatching, bowling, playing games and bingo. Those who knew her will fondly remember her generous spirit, especially the love and "spoiling" she showered upon her beloved "doggie niece," Lexi.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Evelyn Nelson; her longtime partner, Frank Capaccio; and her son, Rocky Scivano. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Nix (TX), her sister, Lynn Nelson (NJ); her brother John Nelson and his wife, Sandy (PA); and her two grandchildren, Derek Nix (TX) and Alyssia Scivano. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
