Katherine "Katy" Kroon

Born in Bennington, Vermont, Katy lived in Seaside Park for more than 50 years. Katy and her husband, Fred, were Florida “snow birds” for years and moved to Florida full time in 2013. In August 2024, Katy moved back to Seaside Park to be with her family.

After high school, Katy moved to Newport Rhode Island and worked as a telephone operator. While in Newport, Katy met a handsome sailor named Fred Kroon. They married in 1946, moved to New Jersey and started their family. Katy worked for the Postal Service for over 20 years in her adopted hometown of Seaside Park where she raised her family. During that time, she was an active member of the Seaside Park PTA, the Board of Education and was a Girl Scout Leader because all children, not just hers, were an upmost priority. Upon her retirement Katy and the love of her life, her husband Fred, traveled both internationally and in the United States but they especially enjoyed cruising. In Avon Park, Florida, where Katy lived both seasonally and full time for 30 years, she was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and enjoyed many activities with her “lady friends” in her community.

Katy was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Fred; her daughter Margaret; and her son Doug Kroon.

Katy is survived by her son, Fred Kroon Jr. (Chris Haines) of Philadelphia; daughter, Joanne Tacon (Jim Kelsey) of Seaside Park; daughter, Karen Kroon (Sharon Tinucci) of Seaside Park; four grandchildren, Adam, John, Caitlin and Samantha Tacon; and seven great grandchildren. Katy will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A funeral mass will be held on her 100th birthday, January 29, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Seaside Park at 10:30 am. Interment of her cremains will be at 1:00 pm at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ followed by a Celebration of Katy’s life at Café Italia in Toms River.
