Kathleen Murphy

Kathleen Murphy, age 83, of Friendswood, TX passed away in the company of her loving Family at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey on September 9, 2022. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she lived in Westfield before moving to Friendswood.  Kathleen was a devoted Wife, Mother and Nana who touched many lives and whose passing will be felt by all.

Kathleen loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren and was passionate about reading and spending time at the beach. She was also an avid and accomplished Scrabble player.  Kathleen retired from the Union County Finance Department in 2000.

She is predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret Gavan; her husband, Frederick T. Murphy; and her brother, Jack Gavan.

She is survived by her children; her daughter, Maryann and her husband Charles DiMaria of Toms River; her two sons, Dr. Frederick and his wife Kimberly Murphy of Pittsburgh, PA and Attorney Brian and his wife Danay Murphy of Friendswood, TX; her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Murphy, Maura and her husband Dr. George Bodziock, Shannon Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Trinity Murphy, Bree Murphy, Charles DiMaria, Michael DiMaria and his wife Aliyah DiMaria, Liam Murphy, and Bridget Murphy; her brothers, James and Kenneth Gavan; her adoring cousin, Sarahjane Doherty; and many nieces and nephews.

As per Kathleen’s wishes, there will be no viewing, but a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 29,2022 at 10am at St. Helen Roman Catholic Church, 1600 Rahway Ave, Westfield, NJ 07060.

Donations in Kathleen’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
