

Lakehurst -
Leonard David Magee, known as “Babe,” passed away on Sunday, April 17 at home. He was born in Lakehurst on April 20,1926, the son of Samuel and Jennie B. Giberson Magee, and brother of Samuel “Fib” Magee. Babe was a lifelong resident of Lakehurst and a member of Lakehurst United Methodist Church where his grandfather had been pastor. He was married for 66 years to his wife Joyce Safford Magee. Babe was a loving dad to his sons Gary Magee and his wife Beth of Toms River, and Dale Magee and his wife Sally of Sykesville, Md.; and to his three daughters, Diane Harvey, Jan Wickham and her husband Kenny, and Jill Magee and Tom Lewis, all of Whiting. Babe had 11 grandchildren: Patrick, Kary, Troy, Steven, Shannon, Corey, Kelley, Vicky, Nicole, Megan, and Kathryn. He also had 16 great-grandchildren.
Babe was a WWII Army veteran serving with the 75th infantry in Europe. He was a member of the Elks, Lakewood Lodge No. 1432, the Amvets, VFW, and the Lakehurst Fire Department.
He worked at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, Ciba-Geigy in Toms River, and for the Borough of Lakehurst.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Lakehurst United Methodist Church, 204 Elm St., Lakehurst, NJ 08733. A committal service will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Babe’s memory to Lakehurst United Methodist Church.
