

Marie K. Petersen died on July 24, 2015 at home with family by her side. Affectionately known as Gram, she celebrated her 85th birthday the day before. Marie was the daughter of Edward and Mary Waehler and spent her early years in Jersey City before moving to the “Jersey Shore” to marry the love of her life John B. Petersen. Marie was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents and brothers Clifford and Edward. Marie and John were loving partners for life. They were owners in the creation of the original Playdrome Lanes Bowling Center in Toms River. Marie was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends; her home on the water; sailing on the Toms River with John in years past; and sharing their love of bowling; and playing cards with friends. Marie was a Eucharistic Minister and a devoted Catholic at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church in Bayville. She was one of the original members of the Toms River Yacht Club and Beachwood Yacht Club. Marie is now in heaven waltzing once again with John.
Marie is survived by her four loving children: John B. Petersen II and wife Cheryl of Beachwood; Steve Petersen and wife Mari of Toms River; Mary Ann Cilento and husband Anthony of Toms River; and Eric Petersen and Denise Brown of Beachwood; her 16 grandchildren, John B. Petersen, III, Daniel and Tina Petersen, Sara Petersen; Kerri Petersen, Stevann Petersen, Mandi Petersen, Scott Petersen; Catherine and Christian Mulrane, Michael Cilento, Eric J. Petersen, Jr., Troy Petersen, Paige Petersen, Maria and Michael Signorelli and 12 great grandchildren, Gavin Petersen, Addyson Petersen, Kyle Petersen, RJ Petersen, Seth Petersen, Charlotte Petersen, Cassidy Cilento, Cole Cilento, Ryleigh Ann McDonald, Anthony Mulrane, Olivia Mulrane and Damian Signorelli; her sisters-in-law Evelyn Waehler, Ann Petersen, Louise Zuber and Grace Petersen; and many other cherished close friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Monday, July 27 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd, Bayville. A committal service will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River.
