Our hearts are filled with deep sadness as we announce the passing of our beloved mother Marion Dolcemascolo. Marion passed away on Wednesday June 18th at the age of 102. Her last days were spent as were all her days surrounded by her loved ones.
Marion was born Mary Concetta Gambarella in Clifton NJ on September 3rd, 1922 to Ferdinando and Philomena Gambarella. She was one of 8 siblings all of whom have predeceased her.
At the age of 19 she married Frank (Chico) Dolcemascolo. Over the years Marion worked a few part time jobs but her real life’s work was being the best wife and mother possible. Her beloved “Chico” passed on in 1984. She never remarried and lived the remaining years of her life as the matriarch of her very large family.
Marion is survived by 4 children, Phil Dolcemascolo (Linda) of Toms River, Maryann Dolcemascolo of Santa Monica, California, Phyllis Vigorito (Robert) of Manchester, Fred Dolcemascolo of Toms River and her very special niece, Phyllis DiBrino of Lanoka Harbor. Her eldest son Frank Dolcemascolo Jr. (Irma) of Toms River predeceased her. She also is survived by those she so often called, the loves of her life, her 9 grandchildren, Mark Dolcemascolo (Greg), Robert Vigorito Jr. (Gina), Glenn Dolcemascolo, David Vigorito (Brenda), Leighann Dolcemascolo, Jon Dolcemascolo (KarinYoykon), Steven Vigorito (Vicki), and Frank Dolcemascolo (Traci), and her heartfelt grandchildren, Brian DiBrino and Matthew DiBrino and their families and their beloved brother Richard DiBrino who predeceased Marion. Also, her granddaughter who passed at the age of 5 weeks, Sarah Rose Berger. She was also blessed with 5 “bonus” great grandchildren. She was “Big Gram” to her 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Marion is also survived by forever family members, Carol Rubsaman Dolcemascolo of Toms River and Bob Levitt of Santa Monica. In addition she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, some of whom she helped to raise, all of whom she loved dearly.
Marion enjoyed sports and loved the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. She also loved to dance and with her husband won many dance contests. She enjoyed all genres of music and musicians but none more than a band from the 60’s, The Duprees. She had the thrill of her life when they gave a surprise performance at her 100th birthday celebration. Prior to moving to Toms River, Marion resided in Clifton and then Passaic. She was an officer of The Elmwood Park Social Club. Her responsibilities included managing the kitchen and organizing bus trips to Atlantic City.
Marions’ love language was cooking. She had the uncanny ability to “whip” something together always insisting visitors have something to eat. All were welcomed in her home and treated like family.
Marions’ legacy will be one of a beautiful woman with a warm, welcoming heart filled with unconditional love. In our sorrow we will be forever grateful for the many years we had with her and all the lessons she taught, but most of all the endless memories which will remain with us forever.
A visitation for Marion will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 12-4pm at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753.
