Robert A. Horn, age 79, of Island Heights, NJ, passed peacefully during his last nap at home on Friday, May 26, 2023. Born in Newark on June 24, 1943, Bob grew up surrounded by his extended family; parents, grandparents and uncle all living next to each other. He graduated from Essex Catholic High School and attended Seton Hall University. Bob was an entrepreneur from an early age, selling ice cream from his bicycle. He worked for the Bernardsville Police Department and loss prevention companies prior to joining Snap-on Incorporated where he was an extremely successful franchise owner. Bob earned numerous awards during his many years with Snap-on; a high point was when he came in #1 and won a trip to Hawaii for Susan and himself.
Bob was very strong in his faith and active at Island Heights United Methodist Church. He organized many church functions: The River Lady cruise, trips to Blue Claws, Appreciation Day, and the Diaper Drive. He especially loved the UMM club and working at the monthly breakfasts. Bob loved baseball; from the Yankees to the local league Blue Claws, to watching his 11 year old grandson Joey’s baseball games. He amassed a huge Lionel Trains collection and spent many winters with his wife RVing across our beautiful country and the past seven years in Jupiter Beach as ‘climate refugees’. He loved BBQing in his backyard with his grill, smoker and tiki bar. If Bob wasn’t working or grilling, he was READING. He was a history buff which fueled much of his book selections, but he read everything!
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ann Horn and his sister Carol Horn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Susan; 2 children, Jacqueline Mazzucco (Mark) Carolyn Sawaya (Joseph) and 2 stepchildren, John Buckley (Liz), Jennifer Miller. He dearly loved his seven grandchildren: Michael, Lindsay, Lexie, Joey, Lana, Alex and Anna May.
A Memorial Service will be held on June 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Island Heights United Methodist Church, 111 Ocean Avenue, Island Heights NJ.
