Sandra Ann Treat Naiva died peacefully on the morning of March 25, 2024. After a three year battle with ovarian cancer, she passed without any pain, with warmth in her heart and kind words on her lips. Sandy was born August 5, 1939 in Wilkes Barre, PA to Helen and Wilbur Treat. Sandy grew up in PA and in New Jersey where in 7th grade she made friends for life with, Alyce, Dot, and Mary. Sandy met William A Naiva (married with Naval Academy fanfare June 15, 1963 (Bill, our dad, passed Feb 17, 2001). Sandy and Bill have 3 children and their families: Scott (Missy and their child Allie), Matthew (Ling and their children Audrey and William), and Suzie (Brian (deceased) and their children Mykaela, Palmer, Norah and Jaden). There are so many beautiful family members including Bill’s brother David (wife Darlene), Sandy’s Brothers, Wilbur and Robert (both deceased), and their families which include many, many wonderful loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends abound; there is so much love that is palpable through folks like Helen and Stanley Naiva and Mrs. Robinson (Anitarae) who introduced the idea to mom that God is loving and kind and can be trusted to take care of each of us. The seventh-grade friends visited one another, played hard, supported each other, and journeyed through the most pivotal, difficult, and joyful of days through 72 ½ wonderful years of friendship.
Bill and Sandy brought joy, balance, and a strength-based approach to parenting their three kids. We feel grateful for the wonderful childhood we were afforded. We had so much fun while having complete security of knowing how deep and wide our parents love was for us. We were encouraged to think of others and give a hand to our fellow man in this world and to lead with joy and a sense of fun. This way of living grows peace and joy.
Sandy had a warm, effervescent, energetic and kind persona, and spent so much of her time pouring love into the world around her. She chose to cultivate the gift of service. Sandy had so many interests and was a continuous life learner studying new subjects for the sheer joy of learning. Sandy was often out and about, and was known for striking up conversations with anyone and everyone. Quite often, they would invite Sandy to their homes for the “next time she was in town.” Each of us got to hug Sandy and say so long to Mom, Grandma Nanny, Aunt and friend. We will see you when we meet again in heaven.
