Stephen “Steve” P. McCauley, Sr, 77, of Berkeley Township, after a brief illness passed away Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, with family by his side. Born April 4th, 1946, to Philip and Marie McCauley, he was raised in Newark with his 5 brothers, Philip (Diane), Thomas (Jean), Kevin (Marlene), James and his late brother, Dennis (MaryAnn). Steve and his beloved wife, Patricia nee Brady, were married in 1965 and raised their 5 children in Roselle Park for 20 years before moving 30 years ago “down the shore”.
Retiring from New Jersey Bell in 1993 after nearly 30 years, Steve found his new career “drivin the bus” with a variety of school bus companies, most recently with Presidential Transportation. Steve also loved his almost 30 years as an ASA umpire in both Union and Ocean Counties. A lifelong fan of the NY Giants, NY Yankees, Seton Hall Basketball and as well as a fan of whatever teams his children and grandchildren were playing for. A very involved dad and pop-pop, Steve could often be found at a field, court or even a stage watching, coaching, cheering on or even participating in any variety of activities the family was involved in at the time. Steve also shared a special relationship with his mother-in-law, Berta, who he has missed deeply since her passing.
Sadly, Steve is predeceased by his daughter Alyson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pat; his 4 children, Kelly, Colleen, Stacey, and Stephen; his son-in-law William; and his daughter-in-law Tracy. His 8 grandchildren, Chelsea (Michael), Kaitlyn, Anthony, Liam, Ashley, Shannon, Kylee and Bridgit will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind many family members, friends, as well as friends he considered family.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 21st between 4 PM and 6 PM at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of Steve’s favorite charities, Toys for Tots.
