Thomas R. Reutter, 96, of Seaside Heights, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, Surrounded by his loving family.He was born August 9, 1915, in Philadelphia, PA. He met his wife Dorothy in Philadelphia and married in 1938 in Seaside Heights where they raised their five children. He was co-owner of the Heights Food Market until 1966. He then worked at the Public Works Department of Seaside Heights until his retirement. Tom was a councilman in Seaside Heights for 27 years and a member of the Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Company, Station 44, for 73 years. Tom was on the Board of Trustees and a deacon at The Union Church and The Evangelical Church for 40 years.
Tom and Dorothy loved to travel. Their trips took them to Alaska, the West Coast, Las Vegas, Hawaii, from Maine to Florida and to Europe. But the place to be for Tommy was his beloved Seaside Heights.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy to whom he was married for 59 years, his beloved son Dr. Thomas Reutter and his dear daughter Dorothy Brusamonti. He is survived by his son Robert Reutter and his wife Barbara of Toms River, his son Dr. Richard Reutter and his wife Dr. Mary Lutz of Princeton and his daughter Mary-Margaret Jones and her husband Dana of Eatontown, his daugher-in-law Cynthia Reutter of Woodbury and son-in-law Peter Brusamonti of Dushore, PA. He leaves 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 10 pm on Monday, July 23, at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, July 24, at 10:00 am at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Company or Toms Kids- The Reutter Foundation for Learning.
