I am very sorry to hear about his passing.  Andres was my PhD advisor and I was impressed by his mathematical insights and generosity.  He made great contributions in ergodic theory that will live on forever, especially in my heart.  I was fortunate to be part of his life.  I wish his family well in this difficult time.

Very sad news. 

In inline speed skating you get to know the people who are as fast (or slow) as you because you skate together. I got to know Andres this way. When you skate in a pack, you are one pair of legs in long caterpillar of skaters drafting one another at high speed, only a few cm. apart, controlling your speed by lightly touching the lower back and hips of the skater in front of you. You chat. You coach. You pep talk one another. 

And sometimes, because the caterpillar has a mind of its own, you can zone out and meditate or contemplate the meaning of life. Andres seemed like the kind of dude who relished in that aspect of skating as well as the purely physical.

I will miss Andres's kindness, perspective, his cynical wit and his charm. I will also miss his lower back and hips.

Although I knew his passing was coming, I was devastated by this news. Andres was a huge influence on my life and I know how much he loved and was loved by Paula, Clara and Nina. I am so proud to have been part of his life and so sorry he did not have more years to share his passion for family, math, music and skating with us all.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Andres was a sort of elder statesman in the speed skating scene when we raced together. He was an inspiration to me. I'll miss his quiet clever sense of humour.

I skated with Andres and, I, too, remember his pleasant wit. He was a fine human being and I extend my condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear this, and you have my condolences and sympathy.  I also knew Andres through inline skating; he was smart, funny and a good friend and will be missed.

Dear Paula, Clara and Nina, We met only once, at your home in Toronto, several years ago, when my friends Stephen Fisher and Joann Sochor and I had been invited by you; maybe you remember. I remember Andres as a very nice man and someone who loved inline skating. Andres, Stephen and I skated/cycled together a few times and then we sometimes spoke Dutch to each other. It was a pleasure to have known Andres. I won't forget him. Offering you my condolences. 

So sorry to hear the sad news. My very best wishes to Andres' family. I knew Andres from inline skating. I am still chuckling at a 'one liner' he came up with on the spur of the moment!
