You were so much more than my Padrinho, my Godfather. You were my safe place, my laughter, my adventures, my hair model, my Saturdays, my introduction to portuguese music and Quim Barreiros. You were my memories growing up and my excuse to get out of cleaning (when you arrived, cleaning was over). You were my inspiration for cooking. Your love for Madrinha, was my inspiration for love. I always told myself I wanted to have a love like you had. I always tell Matt how I loved watching you look at Madrinha. You could see how much you loved her just by the way you looked at her and smiled. You were like a grandfather to me, and an uncle. You were so much more to me than you ever knew, and I will miss all of it. My life will never be the same without you in it. Everyone's life will forever be left with a hole, missing your hugs, laughs and amazing advice. I will cherish the last time we ever hugged  and how you held me tightly, I wish I never let go. 
I pray to God every night to help me find comfort that you are in heaven with your loved ones; your parents, your siblings and most importantly your son. That you are looking down at us, and helping us from heaven and looking out for us. 
I named my son after you, I wanted him to be named after someone who was strong, brave, smart, kind and generous just like you. I want to be able to tell him how he was named after such an amazing human being who made people's days, and had the biggest heart I knew. Even though you weren't able to see him in person before you passed, I hope you are watching him and my daughter from heaven and can watch them grow, and guide them to be just as amazing and strong as you were. 
I will think of you forever, and look forward to when I can finally hug you again. 
Until then, I love you, please rest with your loved ones in peace.

My daughter had the biggest smiles when you and Madrinha held her during her baptism, and whenever she saw you, she always smiled so big, and loved hugging you. My daughter and son will always be told stories about you, so they can always remember you.

All those Saturdays we spent together—ever since I was a baby, when you were the only one who could calm me down (I was always such a crybaby)—mean more to me than I can put into words. COVID may have taken many of those Saturdays away, but it will never take the memories. Playing Yahtzee, returning that broken Furby to Toys “R” Us on the way to the Science Centre, and spending time in Castelo with you and Madrinha—those moments will always stay with me.

You knew me in a way few people ever have. You had this incredible ability to ground me when I needed it most. Even though I could call, I wish my anxiety hadn’t held me back. I wish I had been more present, more talkative. I’m sorry for that.

I’d always ask, “Is Padrinho coming?” and say, “Let me know if he’s there—I’ll come by!” I just loved being around you both. And your hugs… you gave the very best hugs. You had such a gift for making me laugh, for truly listening, and for bringing a sense of calm when everything felt overwhelming.

I hope you’re enjoying all the Quim Barreiros songs with Maezinha now—though she might still not agree with your taste.

I’ll never forget my baby shower—you were the only one who guessed my waist circumference exactly right. That was so you—so thoughtful, so in tune.

You were taken far too soon, and to say I will miss you feels like such an understatement. You and Madrinha will always be my example of what love looks like. I wish you were still here.
