I will always remember the good times we had on The Kingsway, the "fort" in my parents garage and of course sitting on the hill at ECI. It was great to reconnect this past summer, a visit that was far too brief, but one which rekindled a friendship, that had been forged with the intensity and optimism of our younger years.

While certainly saddened by the passing of Bruce, we are also joyful in reflecting about the type of person that he was and the strong love he had for his soul mate, Claire.  Although we did not spend too much time with him over the years, we have fond memories of our time with him at family gatherings and celebrations.  We remember him as a kind and caring man who was easy to share a laugh with.

My condolences to Claire, Christy, Cathy and Mrs. Vodden. I was deeply saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. He was a very dear friend and will be greatly missed. Bruce was a very good friend to so many people.

Dinky toys in the backyard, peanut butter and jam sandwiches together, painting his monkey bike florescent orange, watching Jack build the pool, egging the Catholic school, buying records in Yorkville at 12, riding to Rockwood, pool hopping at 3 am, playing hockey with Humber Valley, buying beer together at 15 (Bruce didn't get caught), Dark Side of the Moon in the Chevelle, hanging out at Freddy's Dad's garage, hitchhiking up north, watching Bruce and McMurchy hand painting the VW green, push starting the Volks at rush hour through Islington and Bloor, Mosport, the I, Brunswick House, McCleary's cottage, Steve Walker and Bruce at our wedding, parties at Tennis Crescent, parties at Kingsway Crescent, meeting Claire in Ottawa,  Y2K New Year's party......... We had a fun ride.

I love you Bruce and will miss you. Thanks for making me part of your life.

I was taken aback when I heard of Bruce's passing. He was a caring and fun person to be around. He was indeed the best story teller ever. He would keep my brother Grant and me in stitches with his "gift" of entertaining with some of the best stories ever told. He will be missed. Love Tommy Jr.

Bruce, we will miss your smiling face and undying optimism.  You were a wonderful and loving husband to Claire, a great brother to your sisters Kathy and Christy and a good master to your many dogs. Extremely sadden to learn of our loss and my deepest condolences to Claire, the Vodden clan, extended family and his many friends.  

Bruce and I were active friends (along with many others) from Grade 4 until a few years after high school. I have no idea why we lost contact; I think it was just regular life experiences that made us go our own ways, definitely my loss. 

Bruce would have your back 110% with no questions asked. I can't recall Bruce's story telling ability, I believe we were too busy creating the stories and it is impossible to overstate how creative we all were back then.
 
The Vodden household was a sanctuary for many of us, door was always open and Mrs. Vodden accepted us as one of her own – I am sure we drove Bruce's sisters crazy on many occasions, but just like Bruce always looking out for his friends; his sisters always looked out for Bruce.
 
Bruce – you will be missed and thanks for being my friend.

R.I.P. Bruce

 Truely valued your kindness and sense of humour.

I remember hanging out with my brother Freddy and Bruce many times.  He was a great guy, down to earth and always ready for anything.  We adventured down to the Humber river many times and had great fun.   My heart goes out to family and friends.  Just a thought for everyone.    Both saddened and deeply shocked to hear of Bruce's passing today. Knew Bruce since we were kids, whether hearing the laughter of his dad Jack or the sarcasm of Betty always a treat to be around the family home. Growing up we had many adventures, playing hockey together at Humber Valley or at the shale pit rink, sneaking into the 1969 Varsity concert to watch John and Yoko, Chuck Berry and the Doors, riding to Rockwood Ont on our bikes or hanging with him in Edmonton Alberta. Bruce had a sly and infectious smile that endeared people to him. He was a dear old friend someone I will miss and regret not seeing Bruce for a number years. My condolences to Claire, Kristy and Cathy and personal thankyou to Betty who was so kind to my little sister when she was so ill at Sick Kids visiting her quietly but we noticed. We are very saddened by this news! Bruce and his family go back a long way to our mutual happier days in the Kingsway. We followed his path to adulthood and always assumed that he would be able to continue to share his wonderful detailed stories of past experiences and crazy antics. Bruce was a people person for sure but his love for his dogs was also very apparent  and he and Claire shared this love. Bruce if you're listening you were a wonderful former neighbor,a great childhood friend, and grew to be that same treasured person into your adult years .Gone far too soon. I remember Bruce from when he was a baby living across the street from me many years ago. I can still see him and his buddies, including my brother tearing around our street on their bicycles or swimming in the pool in their backyard. As a  young adult, I used to visit with him when he came in to see his Mom, usually accompanied by one of his dogs. We would also get caught up on our lives at his Mom's birthday parties that were celebrated in their back yard on "The Crescent". His older sister, Kathy kept our family up to date on what was happening in Bruce's life, and we were so sad to hear of his cancer diagnosis last year. My sister and I had so hoped that he would recover, and were shocked to hear of his recent passing. The world has lost a beautiful person much too soon. It is so difficult when the youngest in the family leaves us before the others. Our condolences go out to his wife and family and a special pat on the head to his beloved dog. I never had the chance to get to know Bruce but from everything I heard he was a strong, brave man. I know that he will now get the rest that he deserves. His memory will live on with the passing of each wave by Cherry Beach.

Our dogs led us together when they formed a deep bond. The human friendships quickly followed the good sense of the canines. Bruce is hands down one of the best story-tellers we ever met. Through his stories we got to know a man with a deep love of nature, of animals, of boats on open waters, of human foibles and the craft of building things with his skilled hands. His deepest love was saved for the love of his life and his stories told of that too. The tales were warm and wry, funny and always wise. Wherever this next adventure takes him, there is a great yarn in the making. Bon Voyage, Bruce...thank you so much for sharing, for caring. Wherever you are, they're damn lucky to have you!

Bruce's face always lit up with a welcoming smile when we saw him in the neighbourhood.   He was a good neighbour, a steady, kind, man.  We will miss his familiar face and easy-going nature.  We will plant some fruit bushes in the community garden in his honour this spring, something with beautiful blossoms that grow into precious rare berries, something native to Canada that has leaves that turn beautiful colours in the autumn, so, as you visit across the seasons, you can remember the rare precious love you shared over so many years.
