Casey was born July 2nd 1962. He passed away peacefully July 23rd, 2024 at Toronto General Hospital due to heart complications. He leaves to mourn his sister Debbi Lenglet (Kostelyk) his brother-in-law Rick Lenglet, his niece Shania and husband Manny Buttigieg, his great nephews Harrison and Caleb and great niece Julia, childhood and dearest friend Connie Hilton, step sister Marjorie and Jim, Cathy Pruden, and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Holland, B.C. and Alberta.
Casey is predeceased by his father John Kostelyk, his mother Johanna Smith, stepfather Lawrence Smith and step mother Virginia Kostelyk.
Casey grew up in Neerlandia, Alberta. He enjoyed many Saturdays when our neighbour Mr. DeGier would take Casey, Connie, and Debbi tobogganing in the Vega sandhills which became Casey and Mr. DeGier’s fearless races down the hill! Skating at Thunder Lake could be quite the adventure with the four amigos. You definitely do not go skating when the ice is beginning to melt.
Every summer Casey and Debbi visited their uncle John Wierenga in Lacombe, Alberta and learned what farm life was all about. Casey enjoyed a good joyride on his own if the keys were left in the big Case tractor. Hours were spent with his cousins Henry, Pete and Janet. Henry gave Casey the nickname Monkey Shine because of his red hair and mischievousness.
Casey moved to Edmonton with his dad and stepmother at age 14. Casey and Debbi remember how their father took them for skiing lessons at Rabbit Hill and laughingly recounted how their father lost his skis on top of the hill and went running down to try to catch them. There are many memories of going on family road trips to B.C. Camping along the way was always an adventure providing stories to tell the relatives once they got to Agassi and Vancouver. Another most memorable vacation was going to Holland to meet the Dutch relatives. Who knew eating eel was such a delicacy.
Casey moved to Toronto when he was 34 years old and made his home there. For the last 20 years he lived in the Dara residence where he was known to be a kind man. The family wishes to thank Casey’s friends at the Dara residence who treated him with kindness and respect.
Casey will be laid to rest on August 9th, 1 PM. in Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa, Ontario.
