Missing you more and more everyday Daddy ..... 

There is nothing I enjoyed more than to go over to my nonno s house and watch T.V. with him. To me, that was the greatest joy I could ever ask for. We would watch our sports and the old classic movies. We would laugh, we would talk about anything, and we would eat! Sometimes if I was bored, I would ask my mother to drive me to their house to be with my grandparents and watch T.V. with nonno. Every time I walked in, all I heard was “yo”! If you want to know the definition of an amazing grandfather, I would say my nonno.

One of our favourite things to do was watch “The bee movie”. Every time I would see him, we would watch the movie together and it filled my heart with so much joy. We also watched other movies like Boys town, and Mannequin, but The bee movie was always our favourite. He also loved his Italian soccer.

My nonno was loving, caring, kind, funny. There was many words to describe my nonno. EVERYBODY loved him. His laugh made me so happy. His smile made everything ok, His jokes made us all laugh until we were caughing! My nonno was my best friend to me. 

I know my nonno was loved by everyone that he knew. He had a very special soul that will never be forgotten. I love you nonno, take it easy.



Uncle Don,

You lived your life with kindness and integrity. You were strong but gentle. Brilliant but modest. You were a role model to me and treated me like your own. I hope you know how much you meant to me.  

I will miss you dearly.

Today, we laid to rest my sweet, loving father-in-law. This loss is profound. We cannot pretend that everything is alright, because the heartache is real every time you look at the empty chair or search for the familiar laugh from a person who isn’t there.  Now the hard part begins, as we learn to live without Dad. 
Thank you Dad, for the greatest gift you gave me in this life. . .your son.  Together, we will continue to build a legacy of love with our family that will make you proud.

The world has lost a great mentor and all-around incredible human being!  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Don was a continual source of inspiration throughout the many years of working with him at CH2M.  His architectural knowledge, design excellence and creativity was incredible, and he taught me how to deal with project teams, specifically engineers and PMs, and most importantly to push forward and believe in myself.  I have continually looked back in life and in my memories Don's voice is always there...saying something!  ;-)
I recall when I first started I was working with him on the Loudoun County project, and as inspiration we visited the Alexandria plant, a project which he was incredibly proud of.  We were looking at the brick details, but he wanted me to cross over the primary treatment tanks to look at the wall on the other side.  The smell was awful, and he chuckled at me saying something like "no pain, no gain".  Once we got to the other side, he showed me the brick, and then laughed at the fact that the same detail was back where we were previously standing.
I also remember some unique conversations with Don about technology...we disagreed about door schedules at one point.  He was yelling at me about how important the DOTS were...DOTS!!  I didn't want the dots on the schedule...I wanted the data from the software.  In the midst of the "dot-discussion", we then had a heated discussion about soccer...this was the time when Juve, Milan and Inter were in the CL semis...and Italy a couple years from the World Cup.  A lot of PASSION!
Another great day was when Don was recognized as a Senior Technologist...we held a congratulatory meeting.  I came in late that day because I wanted something special...a ton of cannoli from a bakery in Woodbridge.  We thought it fitting to do something that resonated our ethnic culture alongside his technological achievement!

When I left CH2M, I left some incredible people.  Don you will forever be remembered!

I am so saddened at Don’s passing. 

Don was a great mentor to me in the architectural group. He was always challenging us to think in different ways, and not to accept anything mediocre. He was so passionate about every aspect of his projects which made his work great. I’ll always remember him at our lunchtime group meetings over bad Chinese take-out, his penchant for their hot sauce, and how he was always drawing at the white board and debating on what was the better architectural detail. 

My sincerest condolences to his family.

A great man, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend!!!  I worked with Don on many projects in the past big and small.  I remember when we went to Corvallis, Oregon on TDY for several months to work on a project in Singapore.  There were about a dozen of us.  We started work early in the morning and after work we had a routine.  Don and I went to the grocery store to buy dinner supplies while others went off to do their own things..  Don was my sous chef and prepared all the meat and vegetables for dinner while I did all the cooking.  Others that didn’t help were assigned to dish washing and other duties after.   On weekends I would drop Don off to the Casino and after a round of golf I would pick him up.  Sometimes he wins but most times he lost.  I could tell by his face how the day was.  Don and I also made a trip to Singapore together for a presentation.  I don’t think he had ever flown that long in his life.  He was totally exhausted after 20+ hours of flying but managed to compose himself and between he and I we made a great presentation and the client was very happy.  Funny in all the years that I have known Don I never called him by his name.  He was known to be as “the godfather” and that is what I called him for years.  In fact it became so common everybody started calling him by that name, even a client of ours in Singapore.  I will miss him very much and hope that he will rest in peace forever.


I am really sad to hear this news about Don.   He was a great architect and fun guy to be around on a project.   He had no problem telling the Project Manager what his thoughts were on any number of issues!  This brings back a lot of great memories working on Alexandria and Loudoun County together with all the good folks in Toronto.  Those were honestly some of the most enjoyable projects I have worked on in my career, and we produced some great work together.   All the best and we are thinking about Don and his family in this difficult time.  - Dan


I was privileged to have been a colleague of Don’s, working on several projects at Gore and Storrie, and later CH2M Hill, for 27 years. I always enjoyed Don’s sense of humour. His innate timing for when and how to use that humour brightened many days, over those years. I hope that Don’s humour and the memories you have of him will sustain your family at this time and in the coming days.

Heartbroken over the loss of a truly great man.  No matter what was happening in life, Don was always with a smile on he's face, and a witty comment.  Don was so funny and always a good time talking to him.  Above all , Don loved he's family, especially he's wife Rosie (my cousin) and he's kids and grandkids, but then Don loved everyone and EVERYONE LOVED DON!!!! Heaven has gained an angel and we have lost an incredible husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.   Don will be missed greatly by my family and everyone that knew him! Rest in eternal Peace Don, we love you!!!

It is very tragic news. He was quite a few years younger than me. He was a good and jovial right-hand man of our late Dinshaw Kanga

The last time I met him was in 1994-95(?), when Jai and I came from Iqualuit (North West Territories) now known as Nunavut to Toronto on our holidays. I had come to meet old colleagues and friends at Gore and Storrie.

May the Good Lord give his soul eternal peace in Heaven and to his family and friends our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time.

Mario my condolences to the family and friends for the loss of Don.

Don and I  have worked together on many projects and I remember him as being very meticulous, knowledgeable and professionable about his work. In addition to his archictectural work he had a passion for soccer and that happened especially during  the World Cup and Europe Cup. He got other soccer enthousiasts to  bring their favorite nation flags to the office. It brought quite a healthy  competitive atmosphere during these major sport events.

I wish his family much strength in the coming time.

I too, enjoyed Don’s presence.  I didn’t need to coordinate as frequently as a typical structural engineer, but never the less, I would have space (read room) requirements and computer console furniture for Don to facilitate.  As Erik articulated, I agree Don was an asset to good morale, in Don’s unique style.  And I especially appreciate Erik’s attempts to have Don ‘visit’ us at our G&S Oldboys luncheons, ‘cause I miss him.

I remember Don as a creative person with a sense for the environment into which we site our facilities, an appreciation of the importance of a creation/solution that respects all of the building disciplines, and foremost a final product that will make our clients proud of their building infrastructure for well in the future.

Don was a colleague but more than that he was a friend and he will be missed by his many friends, family, clients, and colleagues. As Erik has mentioned, Don did his job with class, Humour, and teamwork.

I fondly recall our stay in Vallelonga, Italy in 1972 with Don and my Cousin Vince.  It was here where Donato meet Rose Bellissimo  and immediately they fell in Love.  Then as Love would happen our travel plans changed! !  I have a lot of great memories of growing up together with Don from our side Drafting Business on the 3rd floor of my Mother's and Father's house, hanging out with the Boys telling jokes at the corner grocery store and our regular Friday Night reciprocal Poker games at each other's homes before and after we got married up until I moved to Dallas, Texas in 1980.  I am truly sorry to hear about his passing. My Thoughts and Prayers are with you Rose and your Family.   My Sincere Condolences.  Tony Bellissimo

Seems like only yesterday when our Architectural department led by Dinshaw and Don lifted G&S out of the shoebox designs and into award winning buildings.  It was always a pleasure to get them involved in selling the final design to our clients. Don will be missed but not forgotten.

I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am to hear of Don’s passing.
Don was a great guy. We had many laughs over the 25+ years that we worked together.
He was a great mentor and taught me a lot. I Know on many occasions he would come over and say “Is there any way you can move this? It would make things better.
Think about it”. Most of the time he was right  😊.

He always taught me that we didn’t need to make everything plain. For us process people we always just needed a “box” for our equipment. Don instilled in me that you could still have something that looked better than a “box”, without increasing the building’s cost dramatically.

On a personal level, I had built a garage at my cottage that was functional, but was a plain “box”. When I built a second garage on the property, I had been “educated” by Don and incorporated a number of architectural features that made the new garage look great! The old garage then looked terrible. I ended up rehabilitating it to bring it up to par with the new garage  😊. I often think about Don when I look at the garages and the lessons that he taught me.

I will also never forget Don’s favourite architectural product: Kalwall 😊
 
Don was a great person and will certainly be missed.

Together with all of you I’ve received the sad news of Don’s passing. 

I would like to pay tribute to Don as a professional I worked very closely with for almost 40 years .

Don was a unique character, very skilled at his profession and always a delight to work with. It is not easy for an architect to work in an ‘engineering office’ where the “treatment processes” always tended to overshadow the architectural components of the plants we worked on as a team. However, Don gained everybody’s respect with his professionalism, and his tenacity, when he felt it necessary, in order to develop a design that was not only functional but also architecturally pleasing.

I will remember Don best for his tremendous sense of humour and his gift to make us laugh, both in the moment of a contentious discussion, as well as laugh at ourselves for being, in his opinion, ‘obstinate’. I have personally worked as a structural engineer with a number of architects over the years and Don is, in my opinion, right up there amongst the best and most creative.

Don was a very private person and I believe most of us did not know him well outside the office environment. I know that he was extremely dedicated to his family. I tried several times, without avail, to get Don to participate in our G&S Oldboys luncheons at Valleyfields.

Don Iannetta will always be fondly remembered by those of us who were fortunate enough to know him and work with him.
