It is with great sadness that we announce that Dorothy passed away peacefully on Friday July 4 at the age of 96. Dorothy was born January 9th, 1929 in St John’s, Newfoundland. In 1947, after finishing school, she moved to Toronto where she spent the rest of her life. Dorothy worked in food services until retirement in 1982, after which she and Neil spent time with friends and family, taking many road trips and playing euchre and bingo. Dorothy was a kind and compassionate wife who cared for Neil for his lifetime. She was a strong, interested and generous mom who was always present and engaged in her family and their lives. She had many close family, friends and neighbours and she treasured those relationships till the end.
Dorothy is survived by her loving son Bruce and his wife Margaret Barry, grandsons Michael (Sabrina Tom), Taylor (Morgan Wingate) and great grandsons Max and Theo.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil James, parents Leander Newhook and Gertrude (nee Chafe), brothers Eric, Bert and Leonard.
The family wishes to acknowledge the caring staff of the palliative care unit at Michael Garron Hospital who took care of Dorothy for her last days.
