Daugther of Grace Hough and Russell Manuel. Survived by brothers Russell, John, Philip and David Manuel. Loving mother of Jim (Julie), Tom (Rosemarie), Jane (Dan), Robert (Chrissy). Loving grandmother of Ian (Brianne), Stuart, Alexis, Nicolia, Rheamarie, Kyle, Ryan, Nikki, Crawford and Holly. Loving great-grandmother of Dashiell.
Over the years Dorothy’s varied career included homemaker, law librarian and nurse at Toronto “Don” Jail.
She was very active as a volunteer from 1980-1982 for World University Service of Canada in Lesotho National Library; Servas Canada, Interviewer; Rose Avenue P.S. and a member of Religious Society of Friends, Quakers. Dorothy acquired her B.A. 1953, University of Toronto (Victoria College); BLS 1969 Faculty of Library Science, U of T., RN 1986, George Brown College. She was a cat lover, swimmer, tai chi, bicyclist, square dancer, chronic reader, knitter and cross stitcher as well as a traveller.
Visitation at the Giffen-Mack Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 2570 Danforth Ave. (at Main St. subway), 416-698-3121, on Thursday, April 19 and on Friday, April 20 from 6-8 p.m. Memorial gathering in remembrance of Dorothy’s life will be held at 60 Lowther Avenue, Toronto, M5R 1C7 at later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Toronto Grace Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, would be appreciated.
