Dear David and Alison,
My condolences to you and your partners.  Your father was one of a kind, and I'm sure you'll remember him always. 
As I read his obituary, I was struck by how appropriate the language was, and how February 29th would have seemed to him a proper ending point.
Although our paths hadn't crossed for some years, I recall Doug's love of Hart House, UC, and the University of Toronto generally.  He was a loyal and helpful friend.  And, unquestionably, he loved both of you very much.

Hi Alison and David:  Thinking of you and your extended family.  I am sorry to hear about your loss.  I remember your father's participation at Hart House-on the Graduate, Finance and Gallery Club committees.  He was so dedicated to the House for decades.  In his retirement he enjoyed reading in the common room or stopping by for a chat.  He will be missed by many.

We have so many good memories of fun times shared: a surprise visit to us in cottage country, exploring Toronto during Caravan, special worship services at Newtonbrook, Christmas at our home, and so many more. Although we have lost touch over the years, those are memories that are special to us and our family. Hello Alison and David:

I am not sure. But, it's likely that care for your father, shared between you two in your father's later years, may be something similar to what Ian, Mike and I have worked through in bringing our father, Doug Eagles, from Qualicum Beach to Edmonton and then managing his experience there.

Like my brothers, Ian and Mike, I imagine that you two have made all that were his latter days the best that they could possibly be. 

And, while there may be many things that you and Alison are experiencing now, I believe you both have offered your father the best of love and caring throughout his Life, and, that you'll have many good memories and stories to remember him by. 

Part of him resides in the best of who you two have become  that's a very good thing.

In my 30 years working at Hart House, it was the people such as Doug that made it a pleasure. His love of Hart House was infectious. His presence there and at the president's garden party will be missed.
