Bishop, E.A. “Ted” quietly of ALS in Toronto, Friday April 26, 2013. Beloved husband of Pamela, father of Carol (Richard Gwyn) and Susan (David Studer), grandfather to Joshua McIvor (Frances) and Christopher and Paola Studer. Born April 29, 1925 in Montreal, Ted grew up in Toronto. Joining the RCAF at 17, he was posted to Yorkshire, England as an airborne radar expert. There he met Pam, who would be his wife for 68 years. Returning to Toronto, Ted drove a taxi to support the family while earning his BA at the U. of T., then began an extremely successful career, making E.A. Bishop and Associates one of Canada’s leading insurance adjusting firms, later consulting and offering expert testimony, not closing his last file until he was 78. His love of learning never left him and his Masters thesis on Richard III was accepted when he was 73. Ted loved jazz, travel, Shakespeare, the cottage, and his many friends. More than anything he was a truly wonderful family man.
Cremation has already taken place. A memorial gathering will be held at the TRULL “NORTH TORONTO” FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 2704 Yonge St. (5 blocks south of Lawrence) on Wednesday, May 1 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctors Without Borders or The Sunnybrook Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
“An honest tale speeds best, being plainly told.” Richard III, 4. 4
