 When Shelley was in Bobcaygeon she was a part of our weekly meditation group--some friends who meet to share ideas, and sit together in quiet meditation.
 A few months ago I asked the group a question that my late husband, a philosopher, had asked at one time.  "If you get to heaven, and God doesn't tell you what to do, but asks you what you would like to do, what would you say?"
 Shelley answered almost immediately.  She said, "Oh, I'd love to see my family, and friends."
 I asked her if there was anything else she would like to do.
 She said, "Well, family and friends would take a long time..."
 I said, "If there is no time and space, is there anything else?"
 After thinking for a minute she said, "In the early mornings I've been hearing the sound of the wind in the tree leaves.  I'd like to do that for always, and enjoy the view from my front porch.
 In honour of Shelley, I'm going to take short minutes many times, and listen for the sound of the wind in the tree leaves, and really look at the view--colours of sky-water, star shine, Shelley bright, blue herons in flight, and a light that goes on forever...
 We love you Shelley!  Peace be to your spirit and to ours.

Darling Shell, my dearest, closest friend ever since we met at dancingclass when we were young. We were inseparable - we ended up in the same class at Jarvis and we thought we owned the world.  Good Times and bad Times - we have followed eachother through life. Although living on different continents we always managed to keep in touch and numerous are the days that  we have spent together in different parts of the world. We had so many plans for the future.
Life will never be the same - there are no words that can express the sorrow and sadness I feel. My dearest, dearest Shell - how I

Belated condolences following the beautiful memorial yesterday. As everyone has said, Shelley was warm, witty, and very wise - she always had a special insight into everything around her.

I was so privileged to spend Saturday August 20 with Shelley, friends and family, enjoying the Tragically Hip celebration in Bobcaygeon..it won't be the same there without her. She will sorely missed.

Lovely Shelley I knew her for such a short time but, it felt so much longer!!! I will miss her tremendously.

Kind, generous, warm and loving, Shelley made friends of us all.  She gave of herself to family and the world.  Her smile lit up the darkest places and made things whole again.  I will not forget her.

Your smile and your laughter over a cup of tea shall be forever remembered and missed. So glad I met you all those years ago when we were Greenhouse Girls! You will never be far from my thoughts.

I was Shelley's Grade 9 French teacher at Jarvis. She was part of a wonderful group of students who still see each other. Only last June I was able to have a long conversation with her at a reunion. I told her how well I remember the last period Thursday study room which I had to supervise. She and Peter Pringle did their best to make me laugh. Teachers feel the loss of a student very acutely and I can hardly believe that our wonderful dynamic Shelley is gone. My deepest sympathy to her friends and relations.

Shelley and I reconnected at the Jarvis reunion. She stayed with me in the UK on her way to Australia with her darling Pip then I stayed with her the next year in her beloved Bobcaygeon.   She brought such  warmth and fun with her and  to our friendship - a uniquely bright spirit.  I will miss her very much.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Shelley's untimely death.  She was a kind and vivacious person.  I was thrilled to re-connect with her at the Jarvis reunion.  My wife and I had many visits with her since then.  I will miss her presence in this world. John Milosh

My darling darling sister, how can I live in this world without you. It will be a darker place without your light.

Regrettably I cannot attend either service as am in England visiting my son; however, upon my return I will be planting an apple tree at my farm in Meaford. The blossoms will remind us of Shelley's radiance; the apples, of her many friends. It was a privilege being her friend.

Dear Shelley, words cannot describe our sadness and the sense of loss we have over your passing away. You were such a dear person to all of us. Your beautiful smile made us feel so warm and your conversation always made us feel special. You planted the seeds of going on an exchange program to Canada with Denis when he was in primary school and continued to inspire him and us to explore the options. 10 years later, Denis embarked on his exchange program to Canada and had the privilege to spend some time with you which he will remember for the rest of his life.          The year was 1959 when we was all about age 13 years, more or less.   Shelly was in grade 9-M at Jarvis Collegiate.    The home room teacher was Our Mr. Hall, who taught us . . . . . en Francais. . . . .     Mr. Hall gave Shelly the nick name: " The Wild Child " .    One of Mr. Hall's most favorite expressions was . . . . . "Faces Of Stone" . . . . and he would use that expression, said . . . . . en Anglais, . . . . . to convey the idea that the class should dummy up, PDQ. . . . . ie to dummy up, in order to restore law and order in his class room.    Recall Mr. Hall shouting that order to our class and immediately, he would mumble . . . . where is that Wild Child  (of mine). . . . . He would then focus his intense gaze, through those unique spectacles of his, directly at  " The Wild Child ", . . . to ensure that Shelly too, had a    FACE OF STONE, in full compliance with his orders.

         Kind of ironic that Shelly has passed on too soon and yet Our Mr. Hall is still . . . . .

To Shelley's family and her beloved David, please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of our dear Shelley. Having been born in Australia too, we have shared that bond since I first ran into her in a store in Bobcaygeon just a few years ago. After noticing a car outside covered in Australian kangaroos and koalas, I came in asking loudly "Who is the Aussie who owns that car?". Next thing I know she was on my doorstep at Bass Lake with a plate full of ANZAC biscuits and a huge smile on her face! Ever since then, we have enjoyed times together both here and in Australia - and were delighted that she and David could join our family Thanksgiving dinner last year. Shelley was vibrant, joyful and such a pleasure to be around.  We also shared similar views on many local issues and I will miss her terribly. David, we know how much you loved each other and were looking forward to a wonderful future together. Our thoughts are with you during this very sad time. Right now I am also mourning the loss of my dear mother in Australia and so I cannot be at either of Shelley's memorials. Our hearts go out to  David and to her family at this time. - Brenda Wall

We were going to meet your new love, David, at the NAC  in Ottawa in Sept. We were going to go on a cruise to Sweden. We were going to talk and talk and laugh and laugh and complain about getting old .
Eventually we were going to have side by side rooms at a swanky " Senior's Res."and sit at the same table and go on bus trips to crazy places.
" oh, Bren, I don't know what I'd do without you...you're the first person I call when something good happens and the person I call when something bad happens...I don't know what I'd do without you!!"..you would say.
Well Shelley, it is me now saying these words..I don't know what I'll do without you. You disappeared into the ether, without a goodbye, a hug, without a thank you for being my most wonderful friend in this universe. I'm lost in a fog of sadness as I try to imagine how to navigate a world without my Shell.

Dear Auntie Shelley I can't believe I'm writing this! You were so full of life and fun with your 1000watt smile, infectious laugh and mischievious eyes! I first knew you when I was a little girl, and then got to know you very well years later. You were a huge part of my life and will be missed by me every day. Shelley and I overlapped as members of the staff of the newly formed Canadian Human Rights Commission. I best remember her sustained vitality in coordinating the volunteers who sponsored a Vietnamese refugee family during the crisis of the early 80s. She was such a positive and welcoming force. Shelley was one of the "Green House girls" - we shared an old house in Sackville, New Brunswick, when we were all students at Mount Allison university. Since then, we've had reunions that have always been filled with the delight of sharing ideas and experiences.  We will miss Shelley terribly.

I struggle to find the words to express my sadness and disbelief at Shelley's loss. I will miss her. Condolences.

I had only recently becomes friends with Shelley. I enjoyed her intelligence and her energy.  My heart goes out to her friends and family who have lost a wonderful woman from their lives.

I only knew Shelley a short time, but she treated me as a longtime friend.
Her smile lit up the room, I will miss her, as will her family and David.

Words fail me my dearest Shelley, to properly describe the loss to this world and especially to me of the most beautiful, wonderful, caring woman I've ever had the privilege to know much less love. I am truly humbled by the love that you entrusted me with. I've never known such love. You knew as you passed and as I held you that I loved you and will continue to love you for the rest of my days here on earth and to me that is some comfort. Hard to know where to begin in reflecting on Shelley's life. I met her first as when I moved to Christ Church, Bobcaygeon as a parish priest. I only stayed for two years before retiring but got to know Shelley well for her enthusiastic participation in parish life: special services, choir, Bible study, the food bank. She was a faithful servant of the church, a strong believer and one who practiced what she preached...particularly with her advocacy for preserving our environment from the threat posed by indiscriminate growth of quarries in vulnerable areas. Well done good and faithful servant! You will be greatly missed!

Donna and I only met Shelley a couple of times but she made a great impression on us.  She was always full of life and had a joke ready at the drop of a hat.  We will miss her and our thoughts are with her sister Pip at this time.

Shelley Wild was our dear cousin. We will miss her annual visits to Australia and the affection she brought with her to her close and ever-extending family. Only Shelley could look positively radiant holding a laundry basket, as if there were nothing in the world she'd rather be doing at that moment.

Shelley was an incredibly spirited woman with an infectious joie de vivre.  She was always ready to listen, help, empathize, entertain and just laugh with.  She had a depth of insight which I learned to appreciate later in life.  Her love of life, her many diverse experiences and her positive outlook were inspirational.  We were friends in high school and later reconnected in the late 90's.  I feel I have lost a "kindred spirit".  My deepest condolences to Pip, Bill and Ted and to all those who will miss her.

In 2010, i was very ill with leukemia and my face and neck were deformed by swollen glands. Yet when Shelley saw me after a long absence, she greeted me with the same special enthusiasm and love she showed so many of her friends and immediately lifted my spirits. I have admired her many gifts since then and enjoyed every moment of time I had with her in Toronto, Ottawa, her cottage and at all our Jarvis reunions. She is a unique individual who many will miss forever but at least her light shone on my life for a too brief time. All my condolences to Pip and to all love her.
