Born in Sudbury on August 3, 1948
Passed in Toronto on May 13, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we, the Chaput family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother Ernie at the age of 73.
He is survived by his eight siblings: Robert Chaput of Levack, Gilberte Andrews of Sudbury, Raymond Chaput (Maryann) of Stouffville, Maurice Chaput (Heather) of Cambridge, Lorraine Brisbois (Kenneth) of St. Catharines, Claude Chaput (Saveria) of Sudbury, Carllie Danel of Vancouver and Michell Chaput (Katherine) of Kingston, along with his 12 nieces and nephews, along with his 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He will especially be missed by his partner Douglas Lougheed.
He is predeceased by his parents, Gérard Chaput, and Marie-Ange Chaput (neé Frappier).
Ernie was a quiet man who loved the serenity of his backyard where he spent many pleasant visits with his life-long friends, Lane Mason and Rhonda Moffat.
Ernie received a culinary degree from Cambrian College. When he first moved to Toronto from Sudbury, he worked at the Inn on the Park in Don Mills. Then, for 25 years, he was the chef at the downtown “Toronto Eaton Centre”. After this, he was chef at Victoria University (U of T) from where he retired.
Ernie was an avid reader, and amassed a significant book collection, and be assured, he read each one. He loved singing and joined the Toronto Gay Men’s Choir. The jewel of his music collections, was all of the “Beatles” memorabilia.
In addition, he was well-traveled and had taken many road trips across Canada and the USA. This took him to adventurous places such as the Northwest territories, Alaska and the Arctic Circle.
He will always be remembered and loved for his kindness and sincerity, by all of his family and friends.
