

George A. Polak of Toronto, Ontario passed away suddenly at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario on October 3, 2025 due to acute bowel ischemia. He is survived by his loving wife of 26+ years, Laura Polak. He is also survived by 3 sons/daughters-in-law and 6 grandchildren, Alan Polak of the United Kingdom - (Hasina - wife, Sofia - grandchild), David Polak of the United Kingdom - (Mandy - wife, Jacob, Molly, Nanak, Siyah - grandchildren) and Michael Polak of the USA - (Katie - wife, Henry - grandchild) George was born in Prague, Czech Republic but emigrated to the United States as a toddler with his parents, Henry and Hana Polak (both deceased) and lived in Queens, NY.
George had many happy memories of his time and the friendships made at McBurney Prep High School in Manhattan, NY, USA and at Georgetown University (Political Science) in Washington DC, USA He lived in the USA, England and spent the last 28 years of his life in Toronto. George also served in the US Army in Vietnam and attained the rank of Sergeant in the Signal Corp. George was a sales manager of considerable experience and was able to put his gift for languages to use at Kodak (Europe), Minolta USA, Verizon, Insight Information, Renaissance Learning and the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada, to name a few. George had a passion for playing Tennis, watching soccer (Arsenal) and baseball (Yankees fan). He loved to travel and took many trips over the years, both at home and abroad. He also loved to give back to the community and after his retirement, volunteered at the Veterans Centre and Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital, and the Central YMCA (Toronto). Anyone who knew him, knew that George had a great sense of humour. One of his favourite activities was enjoying a great meal with family and friends. He had an incredible zest for life and went out of his way to stay in touch with all friends and family. We are all better for having such a kind and caring person in our lives. We will hold him in our hearts, always.
A Visitation will be held for George at Giffen-Mack and Trull Funeral home at 2570 Danforth Avenue, on Saturday, October 18th from 11am - 12pm. The Celebration of Life will follow at 12pm. Closest subway stop is Main St. Subway Station on TTC Line 2. Tribute donations are appreciated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation, or the UHN Foundation. For those who do want to send flowers, we appreciate vibrant arrangements (please no traditional white arrangements, George loved warm colours).
