Joe Buccioni passed away suddenly at home on September 30th, 2017. He was born outside the commune of Penna San Giovanni, Macerata on July 20th, 1947 to Emidio and Linda (nee Bentivoglio) Buccioni. In 1954 he made his journey to the community of Corso Italia, which had been his home ever since.
Before retiring, Joe spent many years on the road with his friends and colleagues at ITT and Resform Construction. Though an occasional grump who needed a reminder to “be nice” from time to time, he was known for his vast knowledge and experience, quick wit, warm heart, hearty laugh, and ability to make anyone laugh.
Joe was well known and loved in the Corso Italia community, often seen with his beloved Freya at his side. Joe cherished every moment spent with family and friends, whether at home, walking down the street, or sharing an espresso with his friends and neighbours at Tricolore.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Janice; his son Joseph P; his daughters Laura (Patrick Dennis), Kathryn, and Freya (a goldendoodle); his brother Adorno; his nieces, nephews, many cousins and relatives; and his ever-growing extended family of friends and neighbours.
Visitations will be at Jerrett Funeral Home (1141 St. Clair Ave W) in the Dufferin Room, on Thursday, October 5th from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. A mass will be held in Joe’s memory at St. Nicholas of Bari Catholic Church (1277 St. Clair Ave W) on Friday, October 6th at 1:00 pm. Joe will be interned after the mass at Prospect Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Tricolore Bar & Cafe (1240 St Clair Ave W).
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ontario SPCA (ontariospca.ca) at 16586 Woodbine Ave, Stouffville, ON, L4A 2W3. Or Vita Community Living Services (www.vitacls.org) at 4301 Weston Rd, North York, ON. M9L 2Y3. The family would like to extend their thanks to family, friends, and neighbours for the outpouring of love and support.
Giuseppe (Joe) Buccioni 1947-2017:
An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
“Epitaph on my own Friend” by Robert Burns
Farewell to Thee! But not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of Thee;
Within my heart they still shall dwell
And they shall cheer and comfort me.
Life seems more sweet that Thou didst live
And men more true that Thou wert one;
Nothing is lost that Thou didst give,
Nothing destroyed that Thou hast done.
Excerpts from “Farewell” and “Severed and Gone” by Anne Brontë
He is not lost our dearest love,
Nor has he travelled far,
Just stepped inside home’s loveliest room
And left the door ajar.
