

Dearly beloved, we gather here to honor, celebrate, and remember a wonderful woman, Glona Gordon Strick. She made significant sacrifices for her family and had a meaningful career in both teaching and nursing. Glona cared for children in daycare and provided dedicated support to patients in a nursing home.
Glona Gordon Strick was born on October 18, 1939, to Doris Marjorie Gordon Dover and William Alphonzo Gordon. During her life, she fell in love and married the late Winston Strick, with whom she did not have any children. Glona was the eldest of four siblings, including Bernard, Neil, and the late Princess Gordon Wallace. She was the aunt of Sidwell Wallace and Ama Wilson, and Zara Gordon. Great aunt to Ayodele Wallace, Tshekidi Wilson, Cheaka Wilson, and Kawama Wilson. She was also a great-great-aunt to Joshua, Akari, and Akara. Additionally, she served as the godmother to Dale Baird. Glona had relatives, including Gordons, Dovers, Sams, and Millers. Nephew in law David Wilson and Niece in law Shelly Wallace. Best friends, Miss Stobey and Dahlia Whitehead. Neighbor of Azim Abrahim.
Glona attended Friendship Government School from January 1944 to July 1955 and County High School from September 1956 to 1961. She worked as a teacher at 45 Goed Verwagting Nursery School in Guyana and joined the Guyana Teachers Union in September 1968, serving with the Ministry of Education from October 1971 to 1975. In 1976, she immigrated to Canada, living at 10 Ionview Road, Scarborough. From October 1979 to July 1985, she was a daycare assistant teacher in Mississauga. Glona was also a member of the Girls' Friendly Society and the Teachers Association.
Glona attended Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology, where she pursued a career in nursing. She worked for the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto at Bendale Acres Home for the Aged from June 6, 1989, until her retirement. Glona had a passion for knitting, crocheting, and cooking. She grew up with her aunt Veria, a baker who taught her how to decorate cakes and make pastries.
On October 3, 2025, Glona fell ill and was admitted to Lawrence Hospital in Scarborough, Ontario, where she received treatment for several weeks. After careful observation by her care team, her family was informed of her serious condition. She was subsequently transferred to Unity Health, where she received palliative care until her passing on November 2, 2025.
