

Passed away peacefully at Toronto East General Hospital, early on Wednesday October 15th, 2015. Survived by his wife of over 64 years, Mary Louis (Rush). Dear father of Mary Jane Skretting (Norman) and Michael (Sharon). Missed dearly by Grandchildren Ryan (Laurie), Sarah (Alex, Meghan (Kurtis) and Eric. Survived by his sister Kathleen Lee. Predeceased by his sisters, Myrtle, Hazel, Margaret, Eileen and Betty and brothers Donald and Bert.
Dad was born August 18, 1921 in MacIntyre, Grey County, Ontario. Dad and his siblings (own baseball team) grew up in & around the Creemore area of Ontario.
In May 1941 Dad joined the 1st Hussars, 6th Armoured Regiment in London, Ontario. While driving a tank in Falaise, France on August 14, 1944 dad suffered a head wound which left his right side paralyzed. Upon his discharged in January 1945, Dad followed his love of reading by working at the Toronto Telegram, Mights Directory and the House of Lind as a proof-reader until his retirement in 1980. His retirement consisted of spending time at the cottage on Orr Lake, and volunteering for the Meals on Wheels Program of East York.
Dad’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Chester Village Nursing Home. The care and attention shown by Dr. Hoenig and all the nurses and PSWs from the Emerald Wing will never be forgotten by Mom and his family.
Visitation will take place at the Trull Danforth Funeral Home ,1111 Danforth Ave (east of Donlands Avenue) (416)465-4661 on Tuesday October 20th, 2015 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm followed by Funeral Service at 1pm in the Trull Danforth Funeral Home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice or to Dad’s favourites: The Canadian Cancer Society or the Sunnybrook Veteran Hospital.
