Helena grew up in the east end of Toronto, loved the beaches area and has always lived within the area. She proudly worked at Bell Canada for many years. Apart from work, Helena had many other interests and hobbies: knitting, sewing - earning a degree in fashion design from Seneca College and creating and sharing her talent through her Children’s clothing line Kitty Kat Klothes for kids, figure skating costumes, clown outfits as well as hemming up a friend’s dress or pants - fitness, alternative medicine, massage therapy, acupressure and a soft spot for cats. Her health interests also led her to be a vegetarian for over 30 years a commitment she kept to the very end. She touched the lives of so many people by generously giving shoulder rubs, health information, using acupressure points to stop your headache and vegetarian food items like organic natural fruit juice lollipops. All delivered with the most beautiful smile in the world.
Despite Helena’s ambitious love of life, her family and those she met; she endured an unfortunate array of health issues, but none the less was determined to not let them stop her from doing what ever she wanted to do in life! Downhill skiing in BC, figure skating, working out, jogging, riding a bicycle on the Great wall of China, riding with her husband on his motor scooter. She participated in the Terry Fox 10k runs for more than 10 years raising money for cancer to honour the memory of those in her life she had lost to Cancer. Helena was involved with other charitable organizations as well, like the Adult Canadian Congenital Heart Association particularly the Beat Retreat Camp. It was at this camp that she met a wonderfully inspiring person named Elena who became her best friend later in life. Helena also participated in and supported Toronto Epilepsy events, Sick kids Hospital and Toronto General Hospital.
Helena was a very spiritual person throughout her life being involved with many churches especially the Toronto Church of Christ for the last 25 yrs. She volunteered in the children’s classes and for other organizations that the church was involved with, such as the Out of the Cold programs, Good Sheppard Centre and Hope World Wide of Canada to help the homeless, children and the elderly in our communities and around the world.
Helena was a loving and faithful wife to her husband Gary for 30 years. She was the strongest, most determined, courageous person I have ever known. Caring and thoughtful my inspirational hero.
