Father Jim Farrell, a priest of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists) died on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at LaSalle Manor. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary (McGowan) Farrell, as well as his five siblings. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Born on June 16, 1916, he professed his vows as a Redemptorist on August 2, 1935 and was ordained June 23, 1940. His ministry included preaching parish missions, pastoral ministry at parishes in Vancouver, Peterborough, Sudbury, London and Toronto. He was also a great supporter of Marriage Encounter. He was a man with a wonderfully balanced temperament and a lovely singing voice that filled many churches and soirees.
Prayers will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish (141 McCaul St. Toronto) at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13th. The Mass of the Resurrection will take place at St. Patrick’s on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. with reception to follow. Interment at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Out-of-the-Cold program at St. Patrick’s.
We thank God for the life and ministry of this joyful and dear confrere and in Jesus Our Lord we entrust him to the mercy and eternal peace of Our Heavenly Father.
