Dear Marlene,

It happened that I thought of John and You just recently as looking back on my time harvesting tabacco back in 1980
I am sad to hear that John has passed away
I will always remember me as being straightforward, correct, laughing
He impressed me very much

I am so sorry for you loss! I just heard the news and was very saddened by it. John was such a super man, he was like a second dad to me when we worked together in Toronto and I feel very lucky to have had him in my life at that time. I thought about him a lot through the years and I know he will be missed.

Marlene, Tammy and Leslie: Just heard about John's passing via the Delhi grapevine...am so sorry and had I known, Rob and I would have attended John's celebration in T.O. We have thought of you often and hope you will know that we have great memories of John...too many to mention! We will be in touch...Jane&Robin

I remeber when we moved up to Marathon, we didn't have much of anything, but John would have us over for dinners and good times and would do anything for us. That's just the type of person he was.  always loved and never forgotten. You were the best John.

Im very sorry for your loss and hold you in my thoughts. I would like to share this poem with you. I hope it touches you as it did me.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put His arms around you and whispered "come to me". With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

He will be missed but never forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of John.  I always looked up to him and loved his laughter.  John always made me smile.  I know it has been a very long time since I have seen you all but my heart goes out to you and extended family.  He will be greatly missed and if there is anything I can do to help with your pain, please let me know, I understand how you are feeling at this time.

I am so very grateful for the last few years we were able to spend wonderful times together after a long period of no contact. It was like we were never apart. We wish we could be there with you to celebrate the life of John.  Such wonderful pictures to bring back great memories for all the family.  Our trip to Marathon in the middle of the winter will always hold a special place in our hearts.  We were pampered with hospitality in the middle of the woods at the Stefek Camp.

The first time I met John, was at a Good Friday family get together.  I was engaged to my husband Ron at the time.  When we arrived for the family fun, John, Bob, Julius and Joe were in a very heated discussion about government/tobacco farmers. (I do mean heated!)  My husband turned and and said well how do you like them so far as I thought they were going to come to blows!  Well they all calmed down and I had my first roasted pork that John was famous for .He brought them  to many many more family Christmas and Easter dinners,and we always had a wonderful time.  John was a good soul, no matter was happening in life he always showed up with a smile on his face and happy to enjoy the company of the Hertel/Kneisz family. 
I will really miss him, but have only happy memories of him!
